Bay Cove pursues this mission by providing individualized and compassionate services to people facing the challenges associated with developmental disabilities, mental illness, substance use disorders, and homelessness at more than 175 program sites throughout Greater Boston and Southeastern Massachusetts.

Job Summary:

The Special Projects Accountant plays a key role in maintaining financial records, processing financial transactions, reconciling accounts, and ensuring accuracy in financial reports for Bay Cove, CASPAR, Growthways and the HUD companies. This is a non-exempt position at 20 hours per week.

Essential Functions of Position:




  • Prepare monthly analysis of health insurance and other benefit costs to determine plan utilization.



  • Reconcile and analyze payroll deduction balance sheet accounts and payroll clearing account to ensure proper coding of payroll and benefits-related expenses.



  • Reconcile the Accounts Payable control balance sheet accounts.



  • Reconcile the Insurance Exchange balance sheet accounts and maintain detailed schedule of budgeted insurance cost allocations.



  • Research outstanding check, EFT and credit card transactions and determine appropriate course of action.



  • Manage Unclaimed Property filings.



  • Reconcile other assigned balance sheet and income statement accounts and resolve any discrepancies.



  • Assist with internal and external audits, including the preparation of audit schedules and responding to auditor inquiries, and other required annual filings.



  • Cross-train with team members to ensure adequate backup coverage.



  • Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders on cross-functional projects and initiatives.



  • Perform ad-hoc analysis and special projects.



  • Other job-related duties as assigned.




Requirements for the position:




  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.



  • 5-7 years of progressive experience in accounting roles.



  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.



  • Strong computer skills, with proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.



  • Great Plains proficiency is a plus.



  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.



  • Strong attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy and ability to multitask.



  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.



  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
