Job Summary

Reporting to the North America Accounting Manager, the North America Senior Accountant will perform a variety of tasks including accounting, analysis and month end close for all commercial and operating expense accounts of the North America ("NA") Global Pet Care ("GPC") and Global Home Care ("GHC") business units, to include, maintaining an adequate system of accounting records and a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the Company's financial results, and ensure that reported results are timely and comply with U.S. GAAP, local and regional requirements, legal mandates, and internal policies and controls. Specific areas of focus will include distribution center inventory controls, standard cost of raw materials and purchased finished goods, operating expense accounts including selling, advertising, R&D and G&A, and financial reporting internal controls.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Timely and accurate preparation and posting of journal entries for North America commercial and operating expense accounts
  • Accurate and timely reconciliation of general ledger accounts
  • Monthly and quarterly review of Global Pet Care and Home and Garden distribution center inventory controls to ensure controls are designed and operating effectively, properly documented, and approved in accordance with established deadlines
  • Responsible for the annual standard cost roll for of Global Pet Care and Home and Garden raw materials and purchased finished goods, including development of action plan and timeline, project management, review of revised standards with senior management, and the timely and accurate completion of the cost roll in SAP
  • Manage the creation of standard costs for new Global Pet Care and Home and Garden raw materials and purchased finished goods in SAP
  • Ensure internal controls over Global Pet Care and Home and Garden commercial and operating expense accounts are operating effectively to maintain SOX, legal and regulatory compliance
  • Drive standardization and implement process improvements over distribution center inventory controls
  • Mentor and provide guidance to the NA Accountant II
  • Assist with the of Global Pet Care EMEA S4 migration as needed

Education and Experience Profile

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required
  • Minimum of 4 years accounting experience

Required Skills

  • Broad knowledge of US GAAP
  • Experience with SAP is a plus
  • Works well independently and can work cooperatively with team members
  • Strong initiative to identify issues and develop solutions
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks to meet deadlines
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Excel
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving skills and the ability to drive timely resolution of issues
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Detail oriented with a high degree of accuracy and analytical skills
  • Consistently exhibits ethical, professional behavior at all times
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to satisfy company deadlines for month-end close
