Position Summary |
The systems administrator specialist supports virtual desktop environments across academic and administrative areas. Builds and maintains virtual machines and application packages using Azure Virtual Desktop and Microsoft Intune. Creates and updates computer lab images for thin clients in the Miller Learning Center,
EITS Main Library Lab, and
EITS staff devices. Manages software deployments, compliance settings, and access policies for virtual endpoints. Collaborates with departments to deliver customized environments, apply system updates, and maintain reliable IT access. Contributes to documentation, automation, and ongoing service improvements. |
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies |
Virtualization & Desktop Delivery: Proficiency in managing and deploying virtual desktop infrastructure using Azure Virtual Desktop and Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, including experience with App Layering and User Profile Management. Endpoint Management & Configuration: Experience building and deploying application packages using Microsoft Intune and maintaining endpoint configurations via Entra ID, Group Policy, and Active Directory. Scripting & Automation: Proficient in PowerShell for scripting administrative tasks, automating deployments, and supporting infrastructure changes across virtual environments. System Administration: Strong understanding of Windows operating systems (Windows 10/11, Windows Server 2016/2019/2022), including patch management and system hardening best practices. Network Configuration & Troubleshooting: Familiarity with DHCP management via BlueCat Address Manager and basic TCP/IP troubleshooting across virtualized environments. Client Support & Collaboration: Skilled at working directly with faculty, staff, and department liaisons to understand requirements and deliver tailored virtual environments and application configurations. Documentation & Standards: Ability to contribute to and maintain technical documentation, procedures, and environment standards to support operational consistency and future scalability.

Virtual Environment Support
- Builds and maintains virtual machine templates and creates virtual desktops using platforms such as Azure Virtual Desktop and Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops
- Provides technical support for thin clients and users accessing virtual desktop environments.
- Develops and supports virtual desktop solutions for campus departments
- Coordinates with faculty and departmental contacts to deploy and configure software in instructional and research environments.
- Assists in the setup and support of virtual infrastructure used in classrooms, labs, and specialized campus environments.

- Uses scripting and automation tools to streamline virtual desktop management and system maintenance.
- Administers identity and access policies, group configurations, and endpoint settings using Entra ID (Azure AD), Active Directory, and Group Policy.
- Supports patch management and configuration control across supported virtual environments.
- Participates in system patch testing and helps evaluate stability and readiness for production deployment.
