THOR Solutions is actively seeking a mid/senior-level Systems Administrator with strong experience in DoD IT and Cybersecurity practices to support a new contract for the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport (NUWCDIVNPT)'s Code 34, located in Middletown, RI. An ideal candidate will possess experience with both Information Technology (IT)/Systems Administration and IA/Cybersecurity in a U.S. Navy/DoD environment.
Typical Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems, network servers, and virtualization in accordance with Navy/Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI) policies and directives.
- Install and upgrade computer components and software, manage virtual servers, and integrate automation processes.
- Troubleshoot hardware and software errors by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing impact of issues.
- Provide documentation and technical specifications to IT staff for planning and implementing new or upgrades of IT infrastructure.
- Conduct cybersecurity scans of hardware and software systems and configurations in support of larger cybersecurity/IA processes and policies.
- Support and conduct Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) and Enterprise Mission Assurance Support Service (eMASS) activities.
- Coordinate with Navy and contractor cyber security personnel in identifying cybersecurity discrepancies and mitigating security vulnerabilities.
- Work to apply U.S. Navy information systems security policies and directives.
Location: Full time onsite at Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) in Newport, RI.
Typical Physical Activity: Primarily desk/computer work in an office environment. May involve: repetitive motion. May also require physical activity including lifting/moving computer & server hardware assets, setting up workstations, laying network cable, and supporting other IT infrastructure activities.
Existing Secret Security Clearance Required: This position requires a DoD Secret security clearance. A qualified candidate will already possess an Active or Interim Secret clearance. A strongly qualified candidate with relevant DoD experience but no current security clearance may be considered.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must qualify under the DOD Cyber Workforce (CWF) as a System Administrator (451) Intermediate AND as an Information Assurance Technician Level II (IAT II). This can be jointly fulfilled by possessing ONE of the following:
- CompTIA Security+ CE (Sec+ CE)
- CompTIA SecurityX (formerly CASP+)
- Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP)
- GIAC Security Essentials Certification (GSEC)
- OR, in lieu of one of the above certifications, must possess both:
- ONE of the following:
- Cisco Certified Network Associate-Security (CCNA-Security)
- Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)
- Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or Associate
- GIAC Certified Incident Handler Certification (GCIH)
- GIAC Certified Enterprise Defender (GCED)
- AND ONE of the following:
- BS degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Information Systems, or Computer Science, from an ABET accredited or CAE designated institution.
- CompTIA Cloud+
- GIAC Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP)
- Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP)
- Cisco Certified Network Professional Security (CCNP-Security)
- Federal IT Security Professional-Operator-NG (FITSP-O)
- GIAC Foundational Cybersecurity Technologies (GFACT)
- Possesses Windows 10 or higher Operating System certification (OR complete relevant Windows 11 LinkedIn Learning courses within 3 months of hire).
- Possesses Windows Server 2016 or higher Operating System certification (OR complete relevant Windows Server 2022 LinkedIn Learning courses within 3 months of hire).
- At least five (5) years of professional experience supporting DoD unclassified and classified networks. Experience should include:
- Configuring, deploying, operating, and maintaining Windows workstations and server operating systems
- Configuring, deploying, operating, and maintaining Linux operating systems.
- Hardening of Windows workstation and server environments including the implementation of the DISA Security Technical and Implementation Guide (STIG) and demonstrated experience with Information Assurance Vulnerability Alerts (IAV) compliance.
- Providing IT/IA Customer Support Services.
- SharePoint IT/IA administration (including web parts, web pages, document libraries, and calendars).
- Conducting vulnerability scanning and vulnerability analysis and reporting.
- Strong proficiency with common productivity software including Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, and Office suite.
- Excellent communication skills, and the ability to interact with contractor, government, and active-duty military personnel.
