Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Non-Invasive Vascular Laboratory Supervisor performs and interprets physiological and ultrasound evaluations of the venous arterial and cerebrovascular circulation.

Responsibilities:
Performs and interprets the non-invasive vascular testing to include duplex scanning and color flow imaging of the upper and lower extremities (venous and arterial) extracranial cerebrovascular and abdominal vessels (aorta renal artery kidney mesenteric arteries and liver). Physiological arterial testing of the upper and lower extremities utilizing volume plethysmography along with segmental pressures and Doppler waveforms.

Explains vascular procedure to patients and answers any questions they may have. Provides safety and comfort to all patients in accordance with the prescribed standards.

Maintains level of knowledge of and expertise in the professional disciplines and educational methodologies by continuing professional development and participating in ongoing independent study education-related professional activities and affiliations.

Follows specific written testing protocols of The Miriam Hospital Non-Invasive Vascular Lab.

Provides preliminary interpretation of non-invasive testing when necessary.

Maintains safety environmental and infection control in accordance with established hospital department policies procedures and objectives.

Assists with quality assurance/quality improvement necessary for ICAVL accreditation.

Assists with cleaning and maintenance of vascular lab equipment.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Completion of a CAAEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) accredited ultrasound program with concentration in Vascular Ultrasound.

Certification by American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or registry eligible.

Must sit for ARDMS exam within one year of hire.

Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.

EXPERIENCE:

One-year full time clinical experience in Vascular Ultrasound.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Healthcare environment is the hospital.

Physical hazards of the position are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

None.
