Navarro Research and Engineering, Inc. is seeking a GIS Specialist/Geologist/Environmental Scientist candidate to provide support for environmental investigation and remediation projects at the NASA White Sands Test Facility (WSTF) in Las Cruces, NM. The GIS responsibilities include using ArcGIS Pro and ESRI software to develop drawings and perform geospatial analysis. The Geologist/Environmental Scientist responsibilities include collection and evaluation of environmental/geologic data to support technical reporting.

Specific job duties include:

  • Evaluating data and preparing technical reports based on the results of field sampling activities, with specific emphasis on developing tables and visualizations using ArcGIS Pro or comparable software.
  • Evaluating and establishing patterns and trends exhibited by such data for determination of impacts to human health and the environment.
  • Supporting environmental investigations of surface and subsurface soils and alluvial and bedrock groundwater.
  • Ensuring field operations are performed in accordance with scope of work and site safety plans.
  • Ensuring accurate preparation, collection, and retention of records associated with ongoing and historical environmental investigations.
  • Supporting regulatory interaction related to environmental investigations and subsequent reporting.

Additional responsibilities may include:

  • Developing statements of work and related procurement documentation for environmental restoration and monitoring projects.
  • Working with other contractors or off-site subcontractors to facilitate the above activities.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in geology, science, chemistry, or a related field.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in scientific, regulatory, environmental consulting, contracting or related industry.
  • A master's degree from an accredited university may substitute one year of professional experience.
  • Must have a current valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency using ArcGIS Pro 3.0 or similar software package(s) to generate presentation quality maps and figures and proficiency using standard MS Office software.
  • Must be able to effectively create, edit, query, and manage geospatial data.
  • Must be able to work in a production environment and manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Effective oral and written communication, presentation skills, and the ability to complete projects independently and in small teams.
  • Attention to detail and quality.
  • Understanding of applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and guidance.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience with analytical and geological data management packages, such as EQuIS, Esri Suite (ArcGIS, ArcMap, etc.), Rockware LogPlot, CAD software.
  • Field experience with drilling, logging, and installing bedrock groundwater monitoring wells in New Mexico.
  • Experience with multimedia sampling (groundwater, soil, and soil vapor).
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification and current 8-hour refresher.
  • Experience with emerging contaminants including PFAS.
  • Prior experience working on DOD projects (e.g., NASA, USACE, AFCEC, NAVFAC)

Work Environment and Physical Demands

The duties for this position are performed primarily in an office setting and secondarily in the field. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The standard work schedule is 9/80. Occasional shiftwork outside of the standard workday, and potential exposure to adverse outdoor weather conditions may be required. Field work regularly requires the ability to navigate uneven ground or other obstacles found in desert terrains. Occasional travel may also be required.
