Primary Responsibilities

We have an exciting opportunity to lead the growth, direction, and quality of the Water Business Groups Southwest Region Pump Station and Pipelines Business Class. This is a key leadership role that functions in partnership with some of the best and brightest water professionals in the industry. This person will lead some of the largest and most significant infrastructure projects in the region.

The Regional Business Class Leader (BCL) is a professional that is well versed in all aspects of Business Class (BC) services for pump stations and pipeline projects and manages a group of business class professionals. We have a strong backlog of conveyance work and several upcoming opportunities for continued growth.

The duties of the Pump Station and Pipelines BCL are to plan, direct and oversee all aspects of large-scale multi-discipline and multi-benefit projects with a high degree of technical complexity. The position will build and maintain client relations and participate in project development and contract document preparation. The person will staff across a variety of disciplines. The position will participate in and provide oversight of a variety of project types including planning, design, inspection and construction management of pump station and pipelines and general site civil of major water, wastewater, stormwater and reclaimed water infrastructure. The position will also work in coordination with HDR's other regional and national business class technical leads and advisors.

As a Business Class Leader, you will participate in the technical advancement and corporate management of HDR's national pump station and pipeline business class program. HDR utilizes a robust workshare program, and it is common and expected that work is shared across the HDR network between our operational areas.

Primary Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of the Regional Pump Station and Pipelines BCL are as follows:



  • Develop Technical Leadership and Best Practices: Responsibility for leading the ongoing development, monitoring and improvement of technical capabilities within the Business Class. This will be achieved through actively integrating national BC expertise and industry best practices into local project delivery. In support of this responsibility, the BC leader will be expected to actively contribute to the national BC knowledge base, support training activities, and coordinate subject matter expertise integration into project activities through learning and quality control activities.
  • Promote Program Growth and Development: This individual will be responsible for the growth, and development of the Business Class. This responsibility includes developing BC-specific goals and identifying and supporting top-line growth initiatives such new client and/or project opportunities across all market sectors. The BCL will be responsible for raising the visibility of HDR's technical offerings that align with the Business Class at a local, regional and national level through active participation and presentation at conferences, workshops and technical knowledge transfer opportunities. As part of the Southwest Region water business group leadership team, the BCL will be responsible for partnering with market sector leaders, marketing and business development teams and operations management on the strategic development and tactical implementation of region-wide business goals.
  • Deliver Projects/Programs: The BCL will be responsible for leading a team of professionals practicing within the BC. This leadership includes managing workload, facilitating teamwork communication, recruitment initiatives and workshare across the Southwest Region, coordinating technical delivery of project goals and perspectives. The BCL will be responsible for managing key projects and/or programs that align with BC goals and objectives as either the project/program manager or principal. The BCL will serve in a senior technical role, advising project teams and mentoring team members.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 20 years' experience leading projects and teams with a focus on pump stations and pipelines.
  • Proven ability to manage all aspects of project delivery, including project teams, deliverables, quality processes, and administration (scope/schedule/budget)
  • Experience effectively managing and motivating direct reports.
  • Strong leadership skills, including team management and motivation, communication and growth and development strategy
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively under tight deadlines, as well as balance multiple projects by prioritizing effectively.
  • Strong understanding of applicable industry standards, laws, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to build, effective implement and manage training programs; workload and staffing plans; marketing plans and proposal preparation and business group budgets
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field
  • 10 years experience in related field
  • Maintains a professional or Engineering registration and has related technical experience
  • Experienced in development and management of diverse teams
  • Works cooperatively with other business class regional directors, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts
  • Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

The expected compensation range for this position is $170,000 - $287,000 and depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.
