THE ROLE:

We are looking for a dynamic, energetic Lead / Principal Systems Design Engineer to join our growing team. As a key contributor to the success of AMD's product, you will be part of a leading team to drive and improve AMD's abilities to deliver the highest quality, industry leading technologies to market. The Systems Design Engineering team fosters and encourages continuous technical innovation to showcase successes as well as facilitate continuous career development.This role is a technical leader responsible for System and Silicon Enablement and Validation of AMD products. Systems are integrated combinations of computer hardware components (CPUs, graphics, memory, IO adapters, peripherals, and BMCs) and software components (firmware, drivers, OS, virtualization, and system management). This individual will interface with Silicon design, Platform Design, Software and Validation teams to identify high priority silicon features to focus test planning and prioritize and develop test plans for all aspects of testing.

THE PERSON:

As a Leader in Systems Design Engineering, you will drive balanced, scalable, and automated solutions. In this high visibility position, your software systems engineering expertise will be necessary towards product development, definition, and root cause resolution.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Driving technical innovation to improve AMD's capabilities across validation, including tool and script development, technical and procedural methodology enhancement, and various internal and cross-functional technical initiatives
  • Debugging issues found during the process, bring-up, validation, and production phases of SOC programs
  • Working with multiple teams, and tracking test execution to make sure all features are validated and optimized on time
  • Working closely with supporting technical teams
  • Engaging in other software/hardware modeling frameworks
  • Leading collaborative approach with multiple teams
  • Work with cross organization teams to ensure Silicon, Software, Platform features are coordinated, development is supported, and validation is planned.Owner for System specification that includes: Platforms definitions: Validation, reference,
  • Manufacturing Test
  • Covers all system features needing validation.
  • Test requirements for all system features. System test plans that include:
    • Functions within PSE (Bios, Drivers, Silicon, IO subsystems, power, thermal, OS certs)
    • Cross-functional groups (Performance, SSA, PDE)
    • OEM/ODM co-validation team
    • Platform configurations - system BOM definition
  • Sign-off responsibility for:
    • Comprehensive system specification
    • Comprehensive system test plan
    • Synchronized releases for internal and external delivery
    • CPU, chipset, boards, options, peripherals, OS, BIOS, driver
  • Test execution leadership across AMD:
    • Assure that all responsibilities are clearly defined across all relevant and participating organizations.
    • Coordination of all test activities
    • Defect prioritization and root-cause resolution plans.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Programming/scripting skills (e.g. C/C++, Perl, Ruby, Python).
  • Debug techniques and methodologies
  • Extensive experience with common lab equipment, including protocol/logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, etc.
  • Extensive experience with board/platform-level debug, including power delivery, sequencing, analysis, and optimization
  • Extensive knowledge of system architecture, technical debug, and validation strategy
  • Strong Experience in architecture, validation and debug of IPs including: x86 CPU Cores, DDR5 Memory, PCIe Gen5, other IOs and peripherals, clocking and power management, etc.
  • Good understanding and experience of Pre-silicon emulation and simulation, product engineering and Tapeout process and manufacturing test
  • Strong analytical/problem-solving skills and pronounced attention to details
  • Must be a self-starter, and able to independently drive tasks to completion
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong communication skills up to executive level

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

Bachelors or Masters degree in electrical or computer engineering
