Job Overview

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for providing direction to the manufacturing team, reviewing engineering designs for manufacturability, and managing projects to ensure efficient production. This role requires a hands-on approach to problem-solving, process improvement, and team development.

A Day In The Life

  • Provide direction to the manufacturing team, ensuring adherence to production schedules, quality standards, and safety procedures.
  • Act as the primary point of contact between the engineering and manufacturing teams, ensuring smooth communication and execution of tasks.
  • Develop standard work procedures and ensure all manufacturing personnel follow best practices.
  • Provide training and coaching to the manufacturing team members to improve their technical skills and understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Monitor team performance, identify skill gaps, and recommend employee development plans.
  • Address and resolve production issues affecting manufacturing operations, escalating concerns when necessary.
  • Conduct daily stand-up meetings with the manufacturing team to discuss goals, priorities, and any challenges.
  • Review engineering drawings to assess manufacturability, material selection, and production feasibility.
  • Identify design issues that could impact cost, efficiency, or quality and provide feedback to design engineers.
  • Ensure drawings include all necessary details, such as tolerances, manufacturing instructions, and material specifications.
  • Work closely with the design team to propose modifications that improve ease of manufacturing and reduce production costs.
  • Evaluate the impact of engineering changes on existing manufacturing processes and provide recommendations.
  • Plan, execute, and oversee projects related to new product introduction, process improvements, and production scaling.
  • Establish project timelines, track milestones, and ensure timely completion of deliverables.
  • Coordinate with procurement and inventory teams to ensure material availability for manufacturing operations.
  • Develop and implement lean manufacturing strategies to improve efficiency and reduce waste in the production process.
  • Conduct time studies to analyze and optimize manufacturing line workflows.
  • Owns the creation of routings in SAP.
  • Works with the planning team to follow up on Sales orders, the sales schedule and completion times.
  • Lead the implementation of 5S and other workplace organization initiatives.
  • Ensure all assembled products meet internal and customer quality requirements.
  • Investigate and resolve manufacturing-related defects, working with the quality team to implement corrective actions.
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) on recurring issues and recommend long-term solutions.
  • Develop work instructions, checklists, and visual guides to standardize manufacturing processes.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product reliability and minimize rework.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to manufacturing tools, fixtures, and workstations to enhance productivity and ergonomics.
  • Assist in the selection and implementation of automation technologies to streamline production.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of manufacturing equipment.
  • Work with the IT and SAP teams to integrate technology solutions for tracking production and quality metrics.
  • Ensure all manufacturing operations comply with workplace safety regulations and company policies.
  • Conduct safety audits and enforce the use of proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Address potential safety hazards and implement preventative measures.
  • Work with the safety team to provide training and awareness programs for manufacturing personnel.

  • ERP System experience required (SAP preferred)
  • Experience with Root Cause Analysis, 8D Reports, Fishbone Diagrams
  • Process Improvement: Lean, Six Sigma, 5S, Value Stream Mapping
  • Microsoft Project, Excel, or similar software
  • Bachelor's degree in manufacturing engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field required.
  • 3+ years in manufacturing engineering, with experience in manufacturing process development and design review.
  • Lean experience required (Green Belt preferred)
  • Strong leadership and communication abilities.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Hands-on problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
