  • Core Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Machining Process Development: Conceptualize and develop end-to-end machining processes for Horizontal Machining Centers (HMC), from initial planning through to final production.

    • Fixture and Tool Design: Design custom part-holding fixtures and select appropriate cutting tools, coordinating with suppliers to source high-quality components.

    • NC Programming: Create and optimize NC cutting programs using MasterCAM, ensuring efficient and precise machining operations.

    • Process Validation: Conduct process prove-outs and troubleshooting machining operations to ensure repeatability, accuracy, and productivity.

    • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the Quality Control team to ensure inspection methods and data are thorough, consistent, and aligned with GD&T requirements.

    • Final System Runoffs: Lead and perform final system runoffs to validate the complete machining process before transitioning to production.

    • Develop innovative technical solutions to solve customer and manufacturing problems.

    • Serve as a technical resource your areas of expertise and provide consultation and mentorship to other engineers in the department.

    • Maintain a high working knowledge of computer-based analysis tools in his/er related field of discipline and be willing to provide on-the-spot troubleshooting analysis as needed.

    • Able to communicate technical issues in a professional and effective manner to other functions within the organization.

    • Serve in an advisory capacity to management on technical issues.

    • Must possess a working knowledge of the new product development process and basic familiarity with other functions within the company.

    • Must possess a working knowledge of the new manufacturing process and have experience launching new products within a manufacturing environment.

  • Project Involvement

    • May be assigned as a team member on a project team. Will typically be given responsibility for technical subsections of an overall product, often when new concepts/technical solutions are needed.

    • May be asked to lead projects that are engineering focused.

  • Knowledge of Materials and Manufacturing Processes

    • Must possess extensive knowledge of engineering materials used in hand tools along with good familiarity of mechanical properties. It is equally important to have a thorough understanding of the manufacturing processes associated with these materials (e.g. stamping, close tolerance machining, forging, injection molding and powdered metal). You must have the ability to make material or process recommendations based on similar existing parts, experience and theory. Will occasionally and independently explore the use of new materials and manufacturing processes.

    • Work with and steer development with equipment suppliers to deliver custom processing solutions to achieve goals and targets.

    • Perform a variety of calculation and software-aided analyses to prove process reliability, capability, and sustainability.

    • As a subject matter expert, you will provide technical leadership for the team, and drive manufacturing excellence through new processes and methods that will improve safety, reduce product cost and improve product quality

    • Understanding of cost drivers and how to mitigate them through advanced manufacturing techniques

    • Create, maintain, and package robust documentation packages for responsible development activities and work with manufacturing team to verify alignment regarding collected information and support the pre-production activities for processes.

  • Involvement in Testing: Ability to independently write test requests to the METCO test laboratory based on established standard test procedures or prior examples. Ability to design new experiments and test systems. Vision and foresight to test the extremes of design and guide team members toward well thought out, logical test regimes.

  • Specific to Value Engineering:

    • Advanced working knowledge of Value Analysis, Value Engineering, Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFMA) and manufacturing & assembly processes.

    • In depth knowledge of the various cost drivers and the metrics defining those drivers.

The TOOLS you'll bring with you:

  • A Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience

  • Strong knowledge of NC machining, NC programing (MasterCAM, CamWorks, or similar), Fixture design for high volume machining and automation.

  • Advanced knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to ensure part designs are manufacturable and inspection-ready, reducing ambiguity and maximizing conformance.

  • Strong proficiency in 3D CAD -- NX, SolidWorks, or similar as well as experience with PDM tools such as Teamcenter

  • Ability to analyze and mathematically model manufacturing & assembly processes

  • Deep mechanical aptitude, including a broad knowledge of manufacturing process related activities such as fixture design, metal working, stamping, injection molding, forging, machining, automated assembly, polishing, and grinding.

  • Advanced computer knowledge and skills using MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook, and MS Project

Other TOOLS we prefer you to have:

  • A Master of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering

  • Strong analytical skills, knowledge, and experience in process evaluation tools: Design of Experiments (DOE), Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) statistical data analysis, risk analysis, flow layout and other related engineering tools.

  • Knowledge to draw preliminary sketches and prepare layout and detail drawings, using standard computer-assisted design software (NX or SolidWorks).

  • Experience with FEA tools
