Major/Essential Functions


  • Demonstrate the mental, emotional, and physical ability to work with children ages 6 weeks to 3 years and families from various ethnic and socio-economic groups. Knowledge, skills, and abilities to work with children with disabilities.
  • Provide for the safety and supervision of children according to Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS), National Association for the Education for Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation standards, and Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS). Familiarity with and willingness to abide by the Texas Family Code 261.001 as it pertains to the abuse and neglect of young children.
  • Work with the Leadership team to ensure CEHS policies and procedures meet all required standards, including monthly and annual reporting requirements, such as application grants, self-assessment, stakeholder reports, training plan, progress toward program goals, written plans, handbooks, and other relevant information regarding day to day operations of the center.
  • Lead teaching staff to plan high-quality experiences and activities for children in support of CEHS School Readiness Goals.
  • Ensure weekly lesson plans are completed on time, and effective in supporting individual children's learning, according to the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework (ELOF), the HighScope curriculum and the Child Observation Record (COR). These lesson plans should also consider children's interests and Individual Family Service Plans (IFSP).
  • Monitor ongoing child observations and COR assessments, for completion and quality anecdotes. Utilize child and program data for monthly reporting and decision making. Aggregate and analyze COR data three times yearly for goal progress; complete annual School Readiness report.
  • Ensure timely completion of Education Requirements into the data management system, ChildPlus.
  • Utilize Program Quality Assessment (PQA), the Conscious Discipline (CD) Rubric and informal observations to provide leadership and mentor Lead and Assistant Teachers to promote quality teaching practices. Utilize Texas Rising Star (TRS) standards and informal observations to provide leadership and mentor Classroom Assistants and volunteers.
  • Implement and provide Practice-Based Coaching for education staff.
  • Oversee the Disabilities component of CEHS: responding to referrals, monitoring disability concerns and IFSPs, and supporting staff to provide appropriate accommodations and activities for children with diagnosed disabilities.
  • Maintain professional ethics and positive working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, students, and families.
  • Participate in professional development by attending conferences and professional meetings and by reading professional literature.
  • Develop and provide training for staff as needed based on evaluations and professional development goals.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree with two years supervisory experience; OR a combination of education and/or supervisory experience to equal six years.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
  • Two years of supervisory experience
  • Classroom teaching experience with infants and toddlers
  • Knowledge of HighScope Curriculum and Conscious Discipline practices
  • Experience in Practice-Based Coaching
