Position Summary
Tyler School of Art and Architecture, Temple University is seeking a full-time Technical Assistant to support the Art Department Fibers & Material Studies Studio. Knowledge of all aspects of studio management is necessary. Management, organizational, and record-keeping skills are required. The Technical Assistant will be expected to work in coordination with the Curriculum Coordinators, Department Chairs, Program Heads, Senior Facility Manager, and faculty. All applicants must be willing and able to work with other disciplines and Technical Assistants as needed. The successful candidate must be able to stay current with technology, tools, and techniques appropriate to the needs of the studio and learn new skills, as necessary. All interested applicants must provide evidence of competence in the areas listed below.

Required Education and Experience
*Bachelor's degree required.
*At least 2 years of directly related experience required.
*An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred Education and Experience
*Experience working in a Higher Education environment.
*Experience in training/mentoring students.
*Experience designing and maintaining a dye garden.

Required Skills and Abilities
*Excellent customer service, written and verbal communication skills.
*Willingness to be self-motivated and work independently
*Demonstrated ability in studio equipment and knowledge.
*General understanding of professional studio standards and how to perform basic studio maintenance.
*General mechanical aptitude and ability to assess and solve problems.
*Experience with traditional and digital fiber processes such as weaving, knitting, surface design, sculptural construction, wearables, machine sewing, embroidery, crochet, basketry, and felting.
*Demonstrated experience with all hand/computer looms and loom tools, including organization and maintenance of warping boards, yarn winders, shuttles, bobbins, spinning wheels, and yarns.
*Working knowledge of dye (MX, Acid, Natural) and dye chemical handling.
* Working knowledge of screen-printing, photo-sensitive emulsion equipment, power washer, screen coaters, and mixed media printing processes and equipment maintenance.
