SUMMARY:

Coordinates activities of workers engaged in setting up, installing, repairing, and maintaining machinery and equipment, and in fabricating metal parts and tools by performing the following duties. Must have ability to lead and instruct a group of maintenance employees and be able to work against established priorities and establish new priorities under emergency production breakdown situations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Directs 3 to 5 employees in the Maintenance Department. Carries out lead responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Directs workers in electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment.
  • Assists workers in diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and equipment.
  • Directs workers engaged in dismantling, assembling, and installing industrial machinery.
  • May requisition spare parts.
  • Directs modifications to, and/or coordinates programming of robots and related equipment such as robot controllers and programmable controllers.
  • Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment.
  • Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.
  • Interprets specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers, and assigns duties.
  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
  • Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
  • Maintains time and production records.
  • Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
  • Performs activities of workers supervised.
  • Repairs and rebuilds components on production and facility machinery and equipment, including air compressors, towers, chillers, material handling systems, elevators, conveyors.
  • Troubleshoots major equipment malfunctions or failures.
  • Starts up and shuts down facilities.
  • Writes reviews for maintenance personnel on respective shift.
  • Lays out and supervises major repairs or overhauls on production machinery and equipment.
  • Convey any pertinent operational information to lead person on the following shift.
  • Communicate with leads, supervisors, managers, and mechanics regarding any pertinent information regarding production machinery.
  • Attend cell meetings and host bi-weekly "crew" meetings.
  • Must be able to work mandatory overtime. The regular schedule for this position exceeds eight hours per day, 40 hours per week. Additional overtime is assigned as needed.
  • Must follow all work rules and policies.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

One-year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months' related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percentage. Understand mathematical concepts such as geometry and algebra.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to handle problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 58 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
