Laboratory Support Technician I

Laboratory Support Technician I position is part of a team working to support the efforts of the research laboratories so they can continue to function at high efficiency. This position normally receives general instructions on routine work and detailed instruction on new assignments. Works under the supervision of senior laboratory support staff. This is a full-time non-exempt position.

Primary Duties:

  1. Perform all work in compliance with company policy and within the guidelines of bioMerieux Quality System
  2. Responsible for the following with some supervision:
    1. Maintaining laboratory stocks and supplies.
    2. Handling and disposal of laboratory waste; including operation of autoclave.
    3. Equipment troubleshooting, maintenance and calibration.
    4. Chaperoning of repair and maintenance technicians in controlled areas.
    5. Decontamination of equipment for removal from controlled areas.
    6. Routine cleaning of laboratory spaces.
    7. Laboratory notebook archiving.
  3. Perform additional tasks as needed to maintain laboratory operation, cleanliness, and efficiency.

Other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • This is an entry-level role. No previous experience is required. Some lab experience is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must be able to maintain a regular work schedule, be organized, and take responsibility for identifying and resolving issues as they arise with the appropriate guidance from more senior personnel.
  • General knowledge with computers and a working knowledge of Microsoft office products is required.
  • Must have reliable transportation.

Working conditions & Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to remain in stationary position, often standing, for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to ascend/descend stairs, ladders, ramps, and the like.
  • Ability to wear PPE correctly most of the day.
  • Ability to adjust or move objects up to 50 pounds in all directions.
