Science Systems and Applications, Inc. is seeking a Payroll Specialist with experience in accounting and payroll, particularly using ADP (Automatic Data Processing) and Deltek Costpoint systems. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of payroll processes, tax regulations, and financial reporting. This role is critical to ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, maintaining compliance with relevant laws and regulations, and contributing to the overall financial health of the organization. This position is located on-site at our offices in Lanham, MD.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Payroll Processing: Utilize ADP and Deltek Costpoint systems to manage end-to-end timesheet and payroll processing for employees, including salary, bonuses, benefits, and deductions. Ensure accuracy and timeliness of payments and reporting.
  • Tax Compliance: Stay current with payroll tax regulations and ensure accurate calculation, reporting, and remittance of payroll taxes at the federal, state, and local levels. Address any payroll tax inquiries or audits.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze payroll-related financial reports, including payroll journal entries, reconciliations, and general ledger entries. Collaborate with the finance team to ensure accurate and timely financial statements.
  • Benefits Administration: Collaborate with HR to ensure accurate administration of employee benefits related to payroll, including retirement plans, health insurance, and other voluntary deductions.
  • Internal Controls: Develop and maintain strong internal controls related to payroll processing to prevent errors and unauthorized access. Regularly review processes for efficiency and compliance.
  • Audits: Assist in internal and external audits related to payroll and financial matters. Provide necessary documentation and explanations to auditors.
  • Compliance: Stay informed about changes in payroll laws, regulations, and industry best practices. Implement necessary changes to ensure compliance.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in a related field
  • Experience in payroll accounting, with specific experience using ADP and Deltek Costpoint systems, or similar
  • Strong knowledge of payroll regulations, tax laws, and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in financial reporting and analysis related to payroll.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Solid understanding of internal controls and process improvement.
  • Experience with audits and audit preparations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other relevant software applications.

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to touch, handle or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee frequently is required to talk and hear and occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
