POSITION SUMMARY:



  • The Service Technician reports to the Divisional Director
  • Located in San Diego, CA or Irvine, CA
  • Full-Time
  • Hybrid



This individual is responsible for service activities for controlled environment rooms (CERs), which typically have temperature, humidity, ventilation, and lighting control. Provides on-site service for older CERs. Starts up and commissions new rooms. Gives feedback on design and installation activities from a service perspective. Assists with planning, design, purchase, scheduling, and installation of mechanical systems when needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Equipment Service:

    • Repair and service TriMark RW Smith CERs

      • Provide technical support to users and field service personnel.
      • Track all service and maintenance events, prepare service reports, and initiate billing.
      • Assist with installation of controls, refrigeration systems and other mechanical equipment.


      • Coordinate piping runs according to BIM and site inspection.
      • Inspect work in progress to ensure that workmanship conforms to specifications and good working practices.
      • Understand and modify PLC logic for specified environment rooms, including refrigeration, humidification/dehumidification, lighting, sensors, and alarms.
      • Resolve punch list issues.


      • Start up and commission CERs.
      • Train end users on the use and care of their CERs.
      • Propose and implement changes to the CER service business to generate more revenue and profit.




  • Repair and Maintenance:

    • Inspect food service equipment for the purpose of ensuring safety
    • Identify necessary repairs and provides ongoing preventative maintenance


  • Inventory Management:

    • Manage and maintain proper equipment, parts inventory, and tools on the service vehicle.
    • Maintain and take periodic inventory of parts, materials and components as directed.


  • Communication:

    • Provide timely and detailed service reports via assigned tablet.
    • Reach out to Senior Service Techs for troubleshooting or assistance periodically.
    • Use field automation systems (i.e., tablets, cell phones, etc.).


  • Customer Interaction:

    • Provide professional service and customer support during service calls and installations.
    • Comprehend customer requirements, build positive relationships, and take appropriate actions.


  • Safety and Compliance:

    • Operate vehicles in a safe manner.
    • Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).


  • Documentation:

    • Read and interpret equipment manuals for required maintenance and service.
    • Maintain and take periodic inventory of parts, materials, and components as directed.


  • Additional Responsibilities:

    • Inform management regarding intermediate procedures and/or status of work orders.
    • Help in other jobs as needed.
    • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.





COMPETENCIES:



  • Strong analytical skills required, including a thorough understanding of refrigeration equipment, electrical circuitry, controls, and trouble shooting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of team members, customers, and subject matter experts.
  • Experience training end users.
  • Ability to read blueprints and electrical schematics.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills, including Word, Excel, and PDF readers.
  • Programming of controllers such as PLCs preferred.



QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:



  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least 5 years of recent experience with refrigeration theory, installation, and service.
  • Universal Refrigerant Handling certification.
  • Experience with mechanical and electrical control logic. This skill must include proficiency with digital and analog I/O, loop control, AC and DC power, temperature and humidity control.
  • Construction site experience.
  • Experience designing and installing controlled environment chambers or walk-in coolers is preferred.
  • Valid vehicle insurance and driver license throughout course of employment.
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check post offer acceptance.

  • Ability to lift 75 pounds.
  • Bend or twist body.
  • Use hands to handle, control or feel objects, tools. or controls.
  • Stand for long periods of time.
  • Keep or regain their balance.
  • Kneel, stoop, crouch, or crawl.

The range provided represents the national average pay range for this position and is considered to be a general guideline. Pay for this position will reflect the candidate's unique qualifications and may be higher or lower than the range provided based on employee geographic location. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other local, state, and federal law.

In addition to base salary, this role will be eligible for participation in TriMark's' benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, 401K (with employer match), etc. Leadership positions may also qualify for participation in bonus programs commensurate with role and scope of responsibility.
