Position Description

Will assist with assessing the viability of using treated produced water as an alternative water source for regional forage crops, with evaluations being performed in greenhouse and field settings. The research will focus on assessing the impact of treated produced water from oil and gas production on forage plant production and nutritive value, and soil health.

This is a two-year position with an available start date of May 1, 2025; however, the start date can be flexible. This is a full-time, full benefits eligible position with a one-year initial appointment, renewable for an additional year contingent on performance.

Major/Essential Functions


  • Plant, maintain, and harvest forage pots/plots in greenhouse and field conditions.
  • Monthly soil core collection using tractor mounted probe.
  • Assist with carrying out plant measurements and sample analyses.
  • Transportation of equipment (tractor, seed drill, harvester and other equipment as needed) to and from research site(s).
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member, manage research logistics, and supervise field/lab personnel.
  • Detail oriented and able to maintain records.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a specialized field and one year research experience. Knowledge of modern research practices, the methods, resources, and standards thereof.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in animal science, Crop Science, Botany, Natural Resources or closely related discipline.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license.
  • Be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Drive trucks with loaded trailer - Regular travel to field site(s).
  • Operate tractors and various implements.
  • Hard working and driven individual.
  • Capacity to perform field work in a hot, arid region.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
