Position Description

The Welcome Center Intern is supervised by the Section Supervisor of the Welcome Center. The Welcome Center Intern will assist with various summer assignments, including summer conferences, and New Student Orientation. Job duties may include assisting with presentations; assisting with setting-up and hosting of information tables; room assignments; creating signage; direct or indirect supervision of student paraprofessionals; and assisting the Section Supervisor and Section Coordinator with daily tasks.

The Welcome Center Intern may also work with student/parent orientation, thereby meeting and talking with partners and departments from all areas of the university. The Welcome Center Intern is a vital member of the University Student Housing Staff. The intern is expected to work with the Section Manager - Welcome Center; Sections Supervisors, Section Coordinator, Housing Advisors, Student Ambassadors; and visiting guests. The intern will attend departmental staff meetings and may attend other meetings as available.

Additionally, the intern may serve on departmental committees, task forces, or assist with collateral assignments to create and implement intentional experiences that support the department and university mission (assigned by supervisory personnel).

Major/Essential Functions

Student and Stakeholder Communications (50%)

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for students, parents, staff, colleagues, and administrators.
  • Address inquiries and resolve concerns via in-person meetings, telephone, email, and mailed correspondence.
  • Support the contracts and room assignment process, including maintaining accurate records and collaborating with the finance team on student account management.
Strategic Planning & Program Development (25%)
  • Assist in designing and implementing strategic plans that align with departmental goals for recruitment and retention.
  • Coordinate and execute functions, campus tours, information sessions, and "Red Raider Orientation" events.
  • Develop informational materials and manage logistics for tabling and outreach initiatives.
Student Staff Leadership (25%)
  • Recruit, train, and supervise Housing Ambassador student assistants.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, performance feedback, and schedule management.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the overall success of the department.

Required Qualifications

Bachelors Degree. Applicants in a Higher Education or related graduate program with an expressed interest in Housing/Residence Life will be given first consideration.
