Position Description

The Texas Tech University Postgraduate Intercollegiate Athletics Internship is intended to provide on-the-job learning experiences for college graduates interested in pursuing a career in various areas of intercollegiate athletics. This program can last 12-36 months.

Future leaders will gain experience in using principles such as:

- Applying a standard of ethics to policy and administrative context
- Evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of current operations within area of assignment
- Communicating relevant information and ideas
- Managing university resources to achieve organizational goals

Major/Essential Functions


  • Assist in designing and implementing comprehensive strength and conditioning programs for both Men's and Women's Basketball teams.
  • Conduct sport-specific training sessions focusing on strength, power, speed, agility, flexibility, and conditioning.
  • Monitor and adjust programs based on athlete performance and progress.
  • Conduct regular assessments to track athletes' physical progress and identify areas for improvement.
  • Utilize various technologies and methodologies to collect and analyze performance data.
  • Collaborate with sports medicine and nutrition staff to ensure the health and safety of all athletes.
  • Provide individualized coaching and instruction to athletes during training sessions.
  • Educate athletes on proper lifting techniques, injury prevention strategies, and nutrition.
  • Foster a positive and motivating environment that encourages peak performance.
  • Assist in the daily upkeep and maintenance of the strength and conditioning facilities.
  • Ensure all equipment is in safe working condition and properly sanitized.
  • Help manage inventory and report any equipment needs or repairs.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as scheduling, record-keeping, and reporting.
  • Contribute to the development of educational materials and resources for athletes and coaching staff.
  • Comply with all NCAA, Big 12, and Texas Tech University rules, regulations, and policies.

Required Qualifications

Qualified applicants must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited university and previous experience with collegiate or professional athletics.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Medicine, or a related field; a master's degree is preferred.
  • Certification from a recognized organization such as NSCA (CSCS) or CSCCa (SCCC).
  • Previous experience in a collegiate or professional strength and conditioning program, preferably with basketball teams.
  • Strong knowledge of strength training, conditioning, and sports nutrition.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
  • CPR/AED certification.
