General Responsibilities |
Performs various routine floor care maintenance functions including, but not limited to, scrubbing, refinishing, and buffing of floor surfaces in accordance with standard techniques and procedures. Performs other various other floor maintenance functions and other general housekeeping duties and responsibilities as assigned to provide a clean, safe and pleasant environment for students, staff and visitors. |
Work Performed |
Performs floor maintenance functions in accordance with standard techniques and procedures, within the guidelines provided by the Environmental Service Supervisor and the Environmental Services Manager.
Operates various types of equipment used for floor care maintenance such as automatic scrubbers, floor machines, wet/dry vacuums, vacuums, pressure wash equipment and carpet extractors. Provides daily routine preventive equipment maintenance on all equipment used.
Perform light machine maintenance to include: automatic scrubbers, floor machines, wet/dry vacuums, pressure wash equipment and carpet extractors.
Transport various floor equipment and supplies to identified campus areas when required.
Maintains floors and carpets in assigned areas. Performs general floor maintenance: vacuums and shampoos carpets, cleans and buffs/burnishes floors, strips/refinishes floors, wet mops and dry mops floors, and machine scrubs or recoats floors according to floor maintenance schedules.
Complete furniture breakdown and appropriate set-up while performing and maintaining floors and carpets in assigned areas.
Performs environmental service related duties, as assigned (i.e. dusting, trash removal, cleaning) for designated areas (classrooms, labs, restrooms, conference and meeting areas, office areas and stairwells)
Communicates with coworkers, to achieve a good working relationship and knowledge of the areas' schedules and specific needs
Report minor requests for repairs in their assigned areas of responsibility
Maintains a daily written schedule of activities performed
Performs other duties as assigned |

* High School Diploma or equivalent.
* One year specific floor care technician work experience performing various specialized floor maintenance functions in institution or commercial environment preferred.
* One year experience performing general housekeeping experience in institution or commercial environment preferred.
* Knowledge of floor chemicals and equipment and their operation.
* Pleasant and professional demeanor
* Service oriented and flexible

Working Conditions |
floor to overhead, and lift 50 lbs. and walk 10 feet.
* Knowledge of the use of protective clothing and safety equipment
* Exposure to noise and other adverse environmental conditions including cleaning equipment noise, exposure to weather in moving from one building to another in inclement weather, exposure to dust and dirt, exposure to cleaning chemicals and working on ladders and scaffolds.
* Mandatory overtime required for special events such as commencement and others and as required. |
