MizzouRec Services and Facilities is a department within the Division of Student Affairs that provides quality leisure experiences to all members of the campus community, primarily Mizzou students. Research shows a positive correlation between physical activity and educational outcomes of university students. Recreational sports and exercise provide students with opportunities for involvement and to develop a sense of belonging on campus.

Job Description

Summary
The position provides oversight and leadership in MizzouRec's Aquatic Center, which includes management of three pools, two hot tubs, sauna and steam rooms, in addition to aquatic programming of swim lesson instruction and American Red Cross certification courses. This position supervises, trains, and mentors two full-time employees, and indirectly supports 100+ aquatic student support staff. This position has budget oversight and administrative responsibilities related to aquatic operations and programming. This position may require evening and weekend hours supporting activities and programs within the department. Occasionally division and campus projects may require additional hours outside of your normal schedule.

Essential Functions

  • Provide direct supervision to two Aquatic Coordinators and 10-15 Aquatic Lead student staff. Provide second level supervision for 100+ aquatic programming and operational aquatic student staff.
  • Identify, repair, and report maintenance issues within the Mizzou Aquatic Center. Work directly with facility and campus maintenance teams to perform maintenance on aquatic systems and facilities to maintain a safe environment within pool regulations.
  • Lead all efforts and serve as primary contact for day-of competitions and events at the Mizzou Aquatic Center. Coordinate and work closely with Mizzou Athletics and Event Coordinator on the scheduling, planning, and implementation of special events and competitions held in aquatic spaces of oversight.
  • Generate and manage annual budget and assist in financial decision-making for the aquatic operation and programming areas. Develop, analyze, evaluate, and recommend long-term strategic plans and budgets for enterprise systems, equipment, facilities, and/or supplies. Oversight includes identifying potential shortfalls and strategically planning with coordinators to eliminate said shortfalls.
  • As with all positions, involvement with other duties and responsibilities is expected in order to serve the customer and maintain the MizzouRec mission.
  • Involvement with duties and responsibilities of divisional and university special projects and events, programming, and work groups pertaining to the overall student experience.
Shift

40 hours per week

This position will require evening and weekend hours supporting activities and programs within the department. Occasionally division and campus projects may require additional hours outside of your normal schedule.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Recreation Administration, Sports or Sports Facility Management or similar.
  • Three years' experience with emphasis, or significant experience, in Aquatic operations and Aquatic competition management and Risk Management.
  • Certifications including:
    • NSPF Certified Pool Operator (CPO)
    • American Red Cross Lifeguard/CPR/ AED/ FA Certification preferred
    • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor or Instructor Trainer preferred
    • American Red Cross WSI preferred
Anticipated Hiring Range

Range: $51,875 - $65,000 per year, paid monthly.

GGS/PAT Level: GGS 010
