Provides assistance to physicians, providers, and patients for the maintenance of the medical record, on paper and electronically, for all Fred Hutch Clinics. Supports HIM functions including, but not limited to: scanning, transcription, hospital admissions, clinical consenting, external monitoring, and BMT daily census. Serves as liaison with providers, clinic staffs, patients, and external partners.

This position will be 1.0FTE, full-time M-F. Hours during initial training period will be 8:30am - 5pm, then once training is complete hours will be 9am - 5:30pm.



Responsibilities

    Responsible for chart creation, maintenance, and breakdown for all Fred Hutch Clinics, on paper and in electronic formats.
  • Responds to requests for charts and patient information from providers, clinics, and facilities as needed and in accordance with HIM policies, Federal and Washington State laws.
  • Supports HIM processes as assigned in the areas of:
    • Printing and distribution of transcription.
    • Participating in any and all aspects of scanning.
  • Meets productivity standards as determined by HIM leadership.
  • Performs other reasonably related HIM duties as assigned by HIM leadership.
  • Assists with cross coverage in the HIM department by training others and learning new tasks.
  • Collects patient records from clinics and brings to HIM for inclusion in patient charts.


Qualifications

Required:

  • Associate of Arts Degree in Health Information Management or complimentary field of study; or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum one year in healthcare environment.
  • Highly organized and detailed oriented with ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with computer data entry skills.
  • Ability to interact with many types of internal and external customers in a flexible, accommodating manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate well (in both verbal and written formats) with patients, staff, and providers
  • Knowledge of health information management operations and HIPAA guidelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment based upon departmental policies and procedures.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office Suite applications, ORCA, Epic, Mindscape, and scanning software.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management or equivalent work experience.
  • RHIT/RHIA.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $29.19 to $41.56 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
