Job Description
General Purpose of Job:
Promote and restore patient's health by completing the nursing process; collaborating with physicians and specialty team members; providing physical and psychological support to patients, friends, and families. The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner will provide a compassionate, coordinated, medical forensic examination, which follows the standard of care of the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN) and Emergency Nurses Association (ENA).
Essential Duties:

* Maintaining equipment needed for sexual assault exams, and working with a multidisciplinary team of representatives from within the community and the hospital setting.
* Participates in shared decision making. Maintain a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information and responding to requests, building rapport and participating in team problem-solving methods.
* Empowered to coordinate clinical patient activities in the absences of Manager or Director of Emergency Services.
* Quickly and effectively deal with any and all potentially life-threatening situations.
* Assure quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; making or recommending necessary adjustments by collaborating with team members and multidisciplinary members.
* Responsible for a formulation of a plan of care: In compliance with the guidelines of the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN) and Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) as well as the practices and procedures set forth by Sparrow Hospital and the Medical Director.
* Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications and literature; and attending all required in-service, staff meetings, and skills training as set by the Manager and Director of Emergency Services.
* Educate personnel with current and up- to- date information via power point or lecture; assist the emergency department with educational needs and focuses; and work in a team setting for all training needs and goals for the transport and emergency department.
* While in ED assist RN/Physician in procedure set up, transportation, collection of specimen and general care of patients as outlined in Emergency Department RN job description.
* Performs additional role-related duties as requested.
Job Requirements
General Requirements |
* Current Michigan Nursing licensure. * Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association within 60 days of hire. * Completion of the SANE adult/adolescent training course within 90 days of hire * Completion of the SANE pediatric training course within 18 months of hire |
Work Experience |
* Minimum 2 (two) years of nursing experience |
Education |
* Associate degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university * BSN Preferred |
Specialized Knowledge and Skills |
* Must complete all in-services on any drug or procedures and attend ALL mandatory skills required and staff meetings. * Capable of performing general and advanced procedural duties. * Must be a "self-starter" and assertively take on challenging responsibilities and hold self ultimately accountable for results and performance. * Must have superb diagnostic and clinical skills; Able to obtain a complete history, perform an extensive physical and formulate a treatment plan while including team members. * Have extensive knowledge of the uses, dosages and side effects of medications as they apply to difference disease states; Able to assess clinically whether or not a medication is effective. * Promote team spirit and work collaboratively with other in the medical team. * Exhibit excellent multi-tasking skills and able to prioritize and perform a variety of concurrent tasks with minimal direction. * Must have excellent in depth knowledge of physiological functions and processes as they relate to issues of patient care. * Display professionalism, compassion, and sound medical practice when dealing with challenging situations - preferred. * TNCC preferred. |
