Position Summary

A successful candidate will manage NIH-funded projects on Alzheimer's Disease (AD). The primary study is a multicenter study that recruits and evaluates adults with Down Syndrome, and performs in-depth analyses of biomarkers to better understand the neurodegenerative processes involved in AD. This study can have multiple sibling studies that evolved from the parent study.

To this end, Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) will work with the NY State Institute for Basic Research in Developmental Disabilities team (NYS-IBRDD) to recruit and evaluate study participants from the tri-state area. In addition, the CUIMC site will co-lead genomic analyses for the study. Thus, the project coordinator will coordinate the study participant evaluation activities with the NYS-IBRDD team and will also coordinate activities related to the genomics components for the study. In addition, this candidate will collaborate with other team members who work on Principal Investigator's other gene mapping projects, including the genetic epidemiology of Alzheimer's Disease in PSEN1 carrier families as well as the Long Life Family Study (a genetic study of healthy aging). In addition, s/he will work with external collaborators with a wide range of expertise (e.g., statistical genetics/genetic epidemiology, neurology, bioinformatics, statistics, cell biology, etc.).

Responsibilities

The Project Coordinator II responsibilities are two-fold: (1) coordinate genomics related activities for this multi-center study under the supervision of the Principal Investigator; and (2) work with the team at the NYS-IBRDD team, who will be responsible for recruiting and evaluating study participants, including:

• Coordinate the workflow with the team at the NY State-Institute for Basic Research in Developmental Disabilities (NYS-IBRDD), who are responsible for recruiting and evaluating study participants;
• Handle all Institutional Review Board (IRB) related matters for the project, including protocol approval, and obtain informed consent in this study following Institutional Review Board policies and regulations;
• Coordinate biological sample collection, processing, storage, shipping, etc. with the project coordinator for the NYS-IBR and other team members.
• Attend and contribute to multi-site meetings for ongoing studies.
• Perform data management duties, including weekly reports of study activities, update data dictionary; photocopying materials and oversee/track biological samples;
• Perform or supervise data processing and quality control;
• Coordinate data sharing with other centers in this multicenter study;
• Manage data upload to the NIH approved websites;
• Contribute to preparation of grant applications, manuscripts, and annual NIH or other progress reports;
• Update and maintain business tools like Microsoft Teams and project-related websites;
• Perform other relevant administrative duties.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus three years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  Experience in a research setting is highly desirable.

  Master's degree in Epidemiology or comparable field, and at least one year of related work/research experience.
