ENGINEER I - MANUFACTURING

JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY - Provides support in the purchase, modification and improvement of standard equipment. Provides input related to their specific discipline in cross-functional project teams. Possess a basic understanding of engineering & design and provides design support to more senior engineers.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE ENGINEER I - MANUFACTURING

  • Provide support in the upgrade, rebuild, installation and start-up of process equipment.
  • Supports implementation of solutions to equipment safety issues.
  • In addition, provide technical assistance and an interface function on process, product, and maintenance problems.
  • Interact with outside resources including contractors, equipment vendors, and supply vendors for assigned projects.
  • Work within and assist in the development of the appropriate standards, specifications, and procedures, including but not limited to those required for production, technical, safety, and environmental activities.
  • Contributes to OEE improvement activities.
  • Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.

REQUIRED FOR THE ENGINEER I - MANUFACTURING

  • Four-year college degree in an Engineering discipline preferred. Two-year college degree with at least one year of engineering support experience
  • Entry level position.
  • Has basic knowledge of theories, practices and procedures in a function.
  • Accountable for technical contribution to a project team or sub-team.
  • Works with others to achieve team goals within scope of basic knowledge and skills within own function.
  • Knowledge of the existing manufacturing systems including computer systems, steel making processes, material flow and handling schemes, quality systems and process control techniques.
  • Knowledge of Carpenter's processes, products and services.
  • Responds to standard requests from internal and/or external customers.
  • Works within guidelines and direction provided by others to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions.
  • Ability to perform assignments with limited exercise of judgment under direct supervision of higher-level engineers, supervisor or manager.
  • Ability to operate a computer workstation and the appropriate software/hardware.
  • Ability to work in a production-oriented environment.
  • Ability to train and develop others.
  • Ability to work under frequently changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Project management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, well organized and the ability to prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions.
  • Willing to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing work environment.
