Job Summary

This position is responsible for the timely preparation of food items according to set recipe specifications in a clean, safe, and sanitary environment. This position is also responsible to prepare food for one or more service areas such as trayline, cafeteria, cafeteria grill, deli, catering etc. This is the fully operational level for this series. Incumbents are responsible for setup and preparation of items for all Food Service, according to recipes to meet Department standards. Incumbent performs duties requiring previous training or experience in food preparation techniques.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Customer service experience working directly with customers.
  • Read, understand, and accurately prepare recipes.
  • Correctly adjust recipes to produce required portions.
  • Use portion control to maintain flavor, appearance, and contribute to cost containment.
  • Follow written and oral instructions.
  • Meet all schedules and assignments.
  • Organize work and work area to complete assigned duties accurately and quickly.
  • Accurately use measuring equipment and utensils
  • Knowledge of sanitation and safety procedures/requirements used in hospitals and food service areas.
  • Knowledge of diets, diet terminology, and dietary abbreviations or ability to learn these.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ServSafe Food Handler Certificate
  • Prior large volume cooking experience.

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
