Position Summary

The core function of the Program Director for UIC RN-BSN Completion Degree Program is to guide the development and implementation of high-quality online nursing education for students interested and enrolled in the degree programs.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Teaching/Learning
  • Creates and collaborates with RN-to-BSN adjunct instructor to implement the UIC Nursing curricula that allows rapid and convenient electronic access to nursing education materials.
  • Identifies, seeks, and secures instructional resources, including but not limited to adjunct faculty.
  • Oversees development and implementation of course sections and teaching assignments each term.
  • Implements academic and educational policies within the regional program.

Student Support
  • Recruits and orients students to the RN-to-BSN academic program.
  • Assigns mentors/advisors, facilitates student progress (advising, tutoring, special student initiatives), and monitors outcomes.
  • Manages student leadership development and governance, addressing student or advocate concerns/issues when necessary.
  • Creates facilitative communication processes and modalities.

Faculty Development
  • Responsible for faculty recruitment, screening/interviewing, appointment, orientation, and evaluation.
  • Allocates resources and oversees productivity for faculty and student work.

Curriculum Development and Maintenance
  • Determines need and schedule of curriculum revision, engages with assigned subject matter experts to support revision, and manages the evaluation of newly revised courses for quality and accessibility.
  • Obtains necessary instructional design resources.
  • Participates in review and self-study to maintain accreditation.

Operations
  • Provides leadership in developing and administering cost-effective support services that involve but are not limited to:
    • Student recruitment, screening, admissions, retention, graduation and awarding of degrees.
    • Budget planning, approval, monitoring, managing, and reporting.
    • Database management, analyses, and information reporting regarding the business initiatives of the regional program.
    • Staff recruitment, retention, evaluation, development, and facilitation.
    • Participate in the negotiation of contracts with outside health care or educational agencies as necessary to enhance recruitment and retention of students.

University/Campus and Partner Relations
  • Represents faculty and students at college, campus, or university levels.
  • Collaborates with the Associate Dean on student, curricular, and faculty teaching issues.
  • Coordinates with other programs associated with online learning at UIC.
  • Champions the College of Nursing mission within planning and decision-making activities.

Community Relations
  • Partners with community agencies for mutual benefit.
  • Facilitates the marketing plan for online RN-BSN education.
  • Develops and implements plans for creating visibility for the degree program within the relevant communities and surrounding areas.
  • Facilitates alumni relations in concert with the Office of Advancement.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).
  • State of Illinois Registered Nurse License at time of appointment.
  • 3 years experience teaching in online nursing program(s).


Preferred Qualifications:
  • 1 year experience as program director or co-director.
  • Experience with online course development which meets Quality Matters standards.
  • Completion of an online teaching training program.
  • Experience with recruitment and admissions processes.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, presentation, organizational, project management, interpersonal, and computer skills.
