Position Summary |
The primary responsibility of this role is to help implement all aspects of the public relations, marketing, and communications functions of the J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development at the University of Georgia. The Public Relations Manager works with the institute's public service faculty and staff to: implement editorial strategies that align with content marketing and communications efforts across the unit and thinks creatively about new and innovative ways to promote the Institute. The successful candidate will have experience writing and editing content for multiple platforms as well as multiple content areas, including research, features, profiles, news copy, and marketing copy. In addition, the individual will be responsible for the creation and design of institute collateral, including the monthly newsletter; manage the institute's social media; and oversee website information and monitor content to ensure current, accurate information. The individual will be responsible for overseeing internal communications for the institute, working with the director on talking points and presentations, and managing the institute's intranet. The individual will also supervise other communications staff, maintain a thorough knowledge of the work of the institute and assist with communications initiatives and new marketing strategies. Some overnight and weekend travel is required. The Public Relations Manager works closely with the communications operations in the Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach. |
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies |
- Excellent interpersonal, writing, proofing, editing, presentation, and communication skills
- Familiarity with AP style news writing; graphic design; in-depth analytical and organizational skills Demonstrable social networking experience; adequate web design and maintenance experience Proficient in social media applications.
- Experience in reporting and writing.
