Compensation: We offer our employees a competitive compensation and benefits package that reflects our organizational culture, mission, and core values. The hourly range for this position is $34.47 to $36.45 and may be commensurate with experience.

Please Note: This position is granted funded and is dependent on the renewal of grant funding each year. The position will end after one year unless additional grant funding is secured.

Position Description:

The Grants & Contracts Assistant supports the financial management and accounting of SOME's government grants and contracts revenue. This role plays a key part in ensuring timely and accurate submission of invoices, effective compliance monitoring, and proactive relationship management with funding partners.

The Grants & Contracts Assistant works closely with the Grants & Contracts Manager and other internal stakeholders to support accurate financial reporting, document tracking, and communication across departments.

Qualifications:

Required: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or similar field OR Minimum 3 years of equivalent job-related experience

Preferred: Bachelor's Degree; and 3+ years experience working with government grants and contracts.

Ability to interpret contract and grant terms and conditions.

Required License/Certification: N/A

Schedule: Weekdays 9:00 am - 1:00 pm; Part-time, 20 hours per week. Adjusted schedule for month-end closing (100% Remote; MUST be local to Washington, DC & vicinity)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:



  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to interpret complex grant funding requirements, submissions, and budget projections
  • Proficient with MS Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Knowledge of Great Plains
  • Ability to communicate effectively across a broad spectrum of staff, both orally and in writing
  • Analytical ability
  • Time management skills, with the ability to deliver against deadlines


Expected Contributions: Grants and Contracts Accounting



  • Reviewing/monitoring of individual grants and transactions for compliance with private, local, state, and federal funding requirements, billing and collections, journal entries, and financial grant reporting including preparation of reports for granting authorities and annual reports. Prepare budget proposals for grant applications.
  • Acts as the primary point of contact for all of the grants function
  • Keep up-to-date tracking tool to reflect all contracts
  • Oversee monthly invoicing process, including creating, reviewing, and submitting monthly invoices, providing Quality Assurance, Quality Control, and Customer Service over the invoicing process, and ensuring that deadlines are met, and tasks are completed
  • Review monthly: contracts, grant invoicing, and reporting to ensure timely drawdown of funding
  • Facilitates meetings and is responsible for developing agendas to achieve stated group goals, documenting progress, agreements, and issues, and providing follow-up assistance to groups
  • Knowledge of Sarbanes Oxley and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Coordinates with other units to collect information, analyze data, and prepare monthly report
  • Manage renewal process for grant finances
  • Act as liaison with auditors for Federal Funds A133 audit. key information gathering for the government grants and contracts in my portfolio and assisted in collecting documents for transactions done prior to my start on 10-5-2020.
  • Perform weekly grant collection activities


Reports to: Grants & Contracts Manager

Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds. Requires looking at a computer screen for several hours a day. May be required to sit for long periods. Must be able to travel to events and meetings offsite
