Job Details:

Purpose

As part of a grants and contracts support team, provide pre- and post-award grant and contract support for the Jackson School of Geosciences, Associate Dean for Research (JSG ADR) and the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences (EPS).

Responsibilities
  • Conduct pre-award support activities that include developing research submission processes; creating detailed budgets; formatting proposal documents; developing efficient processes; liaising with the Office of Sponsored Projects and other research support offices on campus; and ensuring accurate and timely submission to sponsors.

  • Conduct post-award activities include tracking budgets for award increments and cost share reports; initiating subawards; maintaining files for all projects; ensuring compliance with state, federal and university policies and procedures as they pertain to grant administration; Provide monthly financial reports to EPS faculty and ADR. Provide projections on a quarterly basis, or as needed.

  • Work with the JSG ADR to develop School-wide policies and programs to comply with regulations affecting research grants and contracts. Maintain up-to-date information on budgets related to post-award grants management, to be shared with unit research administrators.

  • Coordinate with EPS Department Chair, JSG ADR and the JSG Chief Business Officer to maintain the office's annual budget, track commitments, and financial reporting to the Dean's Office.

  • Provide backup pre- and post-award support to Sr. Grants and Contracts Specialists in JSG affiliated units and centers.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree with at least five years of experience in the preparation, processing, and administration of sponsored research proposals and awards. Successful record of managing proposal submissions as well as awards with competing deadlines accurately and in a timely manner. Demonstrated adaptability and history of service-minded approach to executing job functions. Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team with multiple deadlines. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

More than the minimum years of experience. Experience with University of Texas systems and applications (UTRMS, DEFINE) and external agency proposal-preparation, budget development, and submissions systems. Certified Research Administrator (CRA) certification. Will to learn full life cycle of grant management process. Demonstrated involvement in the research administration community and/or professional organizations. Experience with development of relevant policies and procedures. Familiarity with external electronic research administration systems such as eRA Commons and Research.gov. Extensive experience with proposal submission and post award administration. Demonstrated ability to work on multiple overlapping and time-sensitive tasks.

Salary Range

$75,000 + depending on qualifications
