Job Title: Reaction/Distillation Specialist

Reports To: Reaction/Distillation Supervisor

Department: Production

Summary: The Reaction/Distillation Specialist role encompasses several job functions within the Production area. The primary duties and responsibilities are listed below.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Secure product/raw ingredients for Production Batch Order(s) (PBO).
  • Prepares, initiates, and operates all related reaction/distillation equipment including reaction flavor tanks.
  • Runs all operating stills simultaneously dependent on PBO workload.
  • Packages and labels products produced in the manufacturing operation.
  • Cleans and readies all required equipment from start to finish of PBO.
  • Understands and operates all functionality of the RF devices inside the production and warehouse areas.
  • Troubleshoots, records, and documents any issues observed in order to refine and improve processes.
  • Perform routine housekeeping functions in accordance with the Food Safety program.
  • Assists in blending and compounding activities when available.

Below outlines the specific topics that will be covered as the primary activities for the Reaction/Distillation Specialist.

Reaction and Distillation

  • Equipment operation concepts such as reaction types, distillation process, reactor capabilities, and use of vacuum and types.
  • Use of gauges and graphs that monitor stages during reactions.
  • Application of vacuum to a system.
  • Proper method for liquid transfer/charging Stills.
  • Review of emergency shutdown procedures.
  • Proper technique for cleaning Production equipment.
  • Responsibilities for Process Development Lab coverage.
  • Interpretation of documents associated with the Production process (such as production orders, transactions sheets, and pack out report).
  • Awareness and documentation for operational and shift logs.
  • Proper technique for sampling.

Administrative Duties

  • Basic computer skills and understanding of RF device.
  • Understanding of current ERP system
  • SOP document Access
  • Safety Training Requirements and Training Completion
  • Accessing SDS sheets

Below are additional duties that will be covered to ensure that this role can assist when necessary to provide support in other areas of the production operation.

Production Area

  • Forklift Certification
  • Understand all methods of moving material using RF device inside the production and warehouse areas.
  • Properly build material on pallets to ship to our customers.
  • Ensure scanning accuracy of all product movements.
  • Performs routine housekeeping functions.
  • Understand other manufactured product types (i.e. Blends, Extractions, Emulsions, Washed Extraction, Filtrations, and Transfers) in order to provide assistance when needed.
  • Assist with product pack outs when available.

Repack and Sampling

  • Ensures sampling procedures are followed.
  • Adheres strictly to PPE requirements and container specifications.
  • Conducts repacks as required per instructions.
  • Ensures accuracy of location and weight of items.
  • Perform Grounding and bonding functions properly.
  • Properly label all containers.
  • Knowledge of all current packaging and size selections.
  • Demonstrate proper usage of the weight scales.
  • Understand the scanning functions on how to process repacks.
  • Performs routine housekeeping functions.
  • Demonstrate how to perform the repack process for sales orders and stock orders.
  • Follow all Food Safety requirements in the repack process.

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to two years related experience and/or training.

Language Ability:

Strong communication skills required to effectively interact with team members, supervisors, and cross-functional departments. Must be able to clearly communicate technical information, both verbally and in writing. Ability to read, interpret, and apply information from safety protocols, standard operating procedures (SOPs), technical manuals, and regulatory documents (e.g., OSHA, EPA, FDA, DEA). Capable of preparing accurate documentation and production reports. Comfortable presenting information or updates and responding to inquiries in a clear and professional manner with coworkers at all levels.

Math Ability:

Solid math skills required to perform accurate measurements, calculate volumes, flow rates, concentrations, and material balances. Ability to apply basic algebra and geometry in process calculations and equipment setup. Must be comfortable working with units of measure, percentages, proportions, and performing conversions as needed for batch processing and documentation.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook, inventory/database software and the internet. Necessary skills include; contact management systems, database software, design software, spreadsheet and word processing software
