Summary Performs both administrative and clinical functions to support smooth and efficient clinical service or practice operations under general supervision. Performs basic clerical work and tasks that are repetitive and routine. Administrative duties related to patient visits including scheduling, check-in, check-out duties.
Essential Functions-Perform routine administrative and clerical duties relating to a clinical service or physician practice office. -Make patient appointments and maintain appointment records. -Greet and assist patients. -Answer telephones, assist callers with routine inquiries, and schedule appointments. -File materials in patient folders and print appointment schedules. -Process patient billing forms and scan documents to patient medical record/LMR. -Call for patient medical records and laboratory test results. -Open and distribute unit mail or faxes. -Type forms, records, schedules, memos, etc., as directed. -May be required to accept co-payments. -Handles, screens and/or takes messages related to prior authorizations, -provider questions, prescription refills, and test results. -Acts as "Super User" for scheduling, registration and billing systems. -Provides assistance and training to others in these areas. -May perform more complex or specialized functions (i.e. surgical scheduling, schedule changes/blocking) at more advanced competency level. Education The Labor and Delivery PSC II serves as the central source of information on the inpatient Labor and Delivery Unit interacting with patients, families and visitors; unit-based staff; and clinical and clerical staff in all departments throughout the MGH. This is a fast-paced environment that requires the successful candidate to handle multiple demands often simultaneously. Under the general direction of the Program Manager, PSC IIs serves as the central source of registration and information on the in-patient Labor & Delivery unit. Provides clerical and reception support function in TRIAGE, registers patient, coordinates admission and discharge of patient and transfer from Labor & Delivery Unit. Collaborates with Police and Security for infant security and screen visitors for patient security. Answers all telephone calls and responds accordingly. Remains calm in emergency situations with the ability to function at a high level to assist the team in coordinating resources for patient care. Candidate must be sensitive to patient needs and responsive to medical and nursing staff needs. Receives patients' relatives and visitors and directs them to the appropriate individual(s). Effective interpersonal and communication skills are essential. Provides support as needed to all OB staff. Must have excellent customer service and organizational skills.
