8:00 am - 5:00 pm; Monday - Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours required, as necessary.
This position may be eligible for a telework schedule once onboarding into position is complete and with supervisor approval. |
Primary Purpose of Position |
This position has direct responsibility for accounting functions for the University's Capital Improvement (CI) projects, including 1) fund setup; 2) ongoing financial and budget administration; and 3) key month-end and year-end reporting responsibilities. Additionally, this position may also be responsible for providing additional support for a variety of accounting functions across the Financial Services division, as needed. |
Minimum Education/Experience |
Required Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in accounting work; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
University Preferred Qualifications:
Four year degree in business administration or accounting; or two year degree in business administration or accounting and one year of experience. Or an equivalent level of combination of training and experience. |
Essential Job Duties |
Essential ongoing job duties include:
- Overall cash management related to Capital Improvement (CI) projects.
- Prepare journal entries and bank transfers to transfer cash in Banner for receipt supported projects.
- Prepare/record CI allotments.
- Ensure sufficient funding is available before processing CI invoices for payment.
- Transfer and requisition CI funds from the state.
- Monitor CI project fund levels and expenditures.
- Assist with monthly reconciliation of CI budget report for each CI budget code and certify CI balances to the state; other related month end close duties as needed.
- Assist with Year end CI tasks; work closely with Reporting & Fixed Assets department to record CI project accruals and contract retainage and to prepare Completed Projects/Construction in Progress data.
- Must maintain knowledge of policies and standards related to construction project reporting, including GAAP, Office of State Budget Management (OSBM) and Office of State Controller (OSC) policies and procedures, and UNC System Office Business Process Standards, to ensure University compliance.
- Excellent collaboration with General Accounting, the Budget Office, Reporting & Fixed Assets, Facilities Management-Capital Projects, and any other personnel/departments who are involved in CI-related funding and accounting decisions.
- Provide support for accounting functions throughout the Financial Services division, as needed.

Other Work Responsibilities |
- Assist with process improvement and technology projects related to CI project accounting/budgeting, as needed.
- Maintain accurate process documentation.
- Assist with other General Accounting tasks as needed; cross train with and serve as back-up for other General Accounting staff.

Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education |
- Associates degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting or Business Administration or related field; Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Experience working in an institution of higher education preferably in the accounting field or the Controller's office and construction project accounting.
- Accounting experience and financial/data analysis.
- Experience using Banner 9, Banner Financial System, and Perceptive Content (Image Now) software and/or other North Carolina state accounting/budgeting systems (e.g., IBIS, NCAS).
- Knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Experience and ability to manage high volume workload.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to details.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Team player; ability to collaborate.
