Primary Purpose
The role of a Steve & Kate's Seasonal Camp Director involves establishing and building relationships with camp families; training and leading a seasonal team of camp counselors; and overseeing logistics, compliance, operations and inventory management at their camp. Successful Seasonal Camp Directors will create a dynamic, inclusive and growing camp community for kids, staff and families and deliver phenomenal programs for campers, while ensuring safety and operational efficiency. This role is intended to be part time for training and preparation through May and full-time June through August when camp is in session.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities
On-site management of their day camp, which runs M-F for 8-11 weeks during Summer (varies by location). There may also be opportunities to manage other holiday break programs (Thanksgiving, Winter and Spring) and pop-up events. Assists on a part-time basis during the pre-season in hiring camp counselors; responsible for onboarding, training, developing, and leading that team during the summer. Responsible for all customer communication during Summer, including responding to email and phone inquiries in a timely fashion, providing exceptional customer service, and handling sensitive and escalated matters for hundreds of prospective and attending camp families. Leads staff in implementing centrally-designed camp activities, while finding ways to improve upon, add depth to and complement core activities with additional on-site developed programs. Manages day-to-day compliance processes and ensures implementation of company, city, county and state required policies for camps and/or childcare facilities as applicable for their location. Oversees management of camp snack and lunch program, including placing vendor orders, managing a food budget, overseeing food service and ensuring compliance with food permitting requirements. Handles crisis, emergency, behavioral and/or medical situations when they arise with support of an off-site Supervisor. Oversees logistics and inventory management functions during camp for hundreds of items needed to run programs. Manages day-to-day relationship with the host school that rents out the facility where camp runs during Summer; also responsible for overseeing Move-In, Move-Out, janitorial services, and campus security to ensure sanitary, safe and smooth operations.
Job Requirements - Education/Experience
Bachelor's Degree - Preferred 3 years of Amin or Supervisory Experience in a Camp, Education or Childcare setting - Required Additional Job Requirements
At least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's Degree preferred. As required by the American Camp Association (ACA) accreditation standards, Directors must have at least two seasons of camp supervisory experience. An equivalent combination of experience working in a child care or education setting for at least one year coupled with supervisory experience in another industry may be considered to satisfy this requirement. Past management or leadership experience is required; experience hiring and/or managing teams of 5 or more is preferred. During summer camp session, Director is expected to be on-site daily. When camp is not in session, most planning and training can be done remotely. Part time schedule in the pre-season is flexible and can be determined with supervisor. On-site management at camp can be physically demanding, with extended periods of time on your feet, outside and occasional activity requiring physical exertion. Candidates who meet the ACA standard of being at least 25 years old are preferred. Directors may have additional opportunities to run break camps throughout the year. Candidate must be fully vaccinated for Covid-19 to ensure compliance with enhanced health and safety protocols and to keep yourself and others safe and free from illness.
Salary/Hourly Rate and Other Compensation Disclosures: Initially, for part time training, the position is paid as an hourly employee. The hourly rate for this position is $30.00 per hour. Upon camp move-in week (approximately May 31), the role will become salaried. The salaried rate for this position is $1200 per week. The pay rate listed here is what Bright Horizons in good faith anticipates per hour for this job opening. Actual compensation offers within this range will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education and training, certifications, geography, and other relevant business or organizational factors.
