General Summary of Position

The CNA Student intern will be assigned to a Nursing Technician and will assist a Nursing Technician with assigned tasks which may include a group of patients. The purpose of the internship is to allow students in a high school level Health Professionals program to practice basic Nursing techniques under the supervision and direction of a licensed professional. CNA Student Interns are unlicensed personnel and must practice under the supervision of a licensed Nursing Technician or Registered Nurse.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Copies memos, reports, records, manuals and other general correspondence as assigned while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Performs receptionist duties as needed.
  • Maintains Inventory/Orders Supplies for department via computerized system.
  • Practices Infection Control measures including hand washing; donning and removal of gloves, gowns, and masks; and double bagging.
  • Assists in miscellaneous non-nursing care duties as needed, including; prepares stretchers; takes specimens to the laboratory; assists with transporting patients to rooms; assists with transporting discharged patients; restocks patient rooms; and other duties as assigned
  • Makes unoccupied beds and assists assigned patients with ADLs including ambulation.
  • Practices safe transfer technique when moving a patient in bed and assists with moving patients to stretchers or wheelchairs.
  • Takes vital signs including proficiency with oral temperature, rectal temperature, radial pulse, respirations, and blood pressure. Reports findings to supervising Nursing Technician or Registered Nurse for verification.
  • Minimum Qualifications

    Education

    • Must be at least 16 years of age. required and
    • Completed at least the 10th grade of High School required and
    • Currently enrolled in the Academy of Health Professions program at the James A. Forrest Career and Technology Center or equivalent program. required

    This position has a hiring range of $17.5 - $28.73
