THE POSITION

Are you eager to start a new chapter in your administrative career? The Pennsylvania Department of Education is on the lookout for an Administrative Officer 1 to complete our team in the Food and Nutrition Division, Child Nutrition Program (CNP). This position gives you the opportunity to utilize your specialized skill set as you provide support for the Bureau and Division Chiefs as well as supervise and direct work of clerical employees. The Bureau of Food and Nutrition is the oversight agency for the Child Nutrition Program, which includes the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs, Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program, Special Milk Program, Afterschool Snack Program, Child and Adult Care Food Program, At-Risk Afterschool Snack Program, and the Summer Food Service Program, hereafter referred to as the Child Nutrition Program.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Administrative Officer, you will be supervising the work of clerical staff and directing the day-to-day activities and workload associated with reviewing new sponsor application paperwork. Work involves enrolling new sponsors of the CNP; executing the process for existing sponsors to ensure there is no interruption with reimbursements; as well as participating in the development of procedures and protocols related to CN PEARS (Child Nutrition Program Electronic Application and Reimbursement System) support and user management for customer service, triaging, tiering, and escalating calls to program staff. You will have the opportunity to train clerical staff in the requirements and techniques of excellent customer service and business etiquette. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Serving as back up to the Civil Rights Compliance Officer and Division Chief
  • Collecting, interpreting, analyzing, and summarizing CN PEARS support inquiries to identify opportunities for technical solutions or sponsor level training
  • Monitoring and ordering supplies for entire bureau
  • Assisting with resolving client complaints by gathering information and providing support and information to program staff

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. You will be required to report to the worksite every Thursday, however this is subject to change depending on work requirements. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience in varied office management or staff work; and bachelor's degree; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
