Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Campus Health (CH) is a multi-specialty ambulatory college health clinic providing quality, and affordable health care for eligible students and spouses. Annually, CH has more than 80,000 patient encounters, which includes Primary Care and Women's Health as well as specialty clinics in sports medicine, orthopedics, gynecology, physical therapy, counseling and psychological services, travel clinic and allergy clinic. Weekend acute care is provided from 8-5 PM. On site ancillary services include pharmacy, OTC pharmacy, Student Stores pharmacy, medical laboratory, and radiology.

Campus Health has been continuously accredited since 1986 by the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Health Care Organizations. All personnel are trained in the concepts and principles of Performance Improvement and serve as team members and leaders in shaping and defining the organization as it strives to provide quality and safe care.

Campus Health collaborates with Student Wellness and Campus Recreation and other Student Affairs partners to provide education and outreach to assist in keeping the campus population healthy.

Education and research comprise another important function of CH. CH provides clinical rotations and practicums for students in the School of Education, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Social Work and Public Health, Department of Medical Technology, Physical Therapy, Occupational Health and Radiology. In addition, CH serves as a research site for a number of faculty and graduate student grants and contracts, where CH staff participates with the principal investigators across a variety of medical specialties.
Position Summary
A Sign-On Bonus of $2,500 is available for the successful applicant of this position paid in 2 installments within 12 Months of hire:
- $1,250 within 30 Days of hire date &
- $1,250 12 Months after hire date


The Medical Laboratory Technologist provides a variety of clinical laboratory procedures, using equipment, instrumentation, and terminology applicable to Microbiology, Molecular testing, Hematology, Urinalysis, and Clinical Microscopy to complete specimen analysis and proficiency tests, as indicated by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments ( CLIA). This position also provides direct patient care by performing phlebotomy and instructing patients regarding specimen collection.

CLIA recognizes Microbiology and Hematology laboratory procedures performed by these positions as high complexity. This position identifies deviations from expected and/or normal results and analyzes results for possible solutions. The Medical Laboratory Technologist interprets and evaluates results for clinicians as needed. The position also evaluates and incorporates new techniques.

This position's duties include performing all categories of lab procedures for patient results and verifying accuracy, consistency, and overall fit before approving results; reviewing quality control results and taking remedial action as needed; performing API Proficiency tests in eCW and Harvest; keeping track of supplies as needed.

This position is responsible for organizing and requesting chemical waste pickup with Environment, Health & Safety. The position also assists in training new laboratory or other Campus Health staff and assists with their competency review.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in medical technology, chemistry, or a biological science; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Some positions may require compliance with current Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments ( CLIA) regulations.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Experience working in an outpatient medical clinic laboratory
* Prior use of lab information software and electronic health software.
* Experience performing phlebotomy, microbiology, molecular testing, hematology, urinalysis, and clinical microscopy laboratory procedures.
* Experience performing a variety of waived testing procedures.

Eligibility Requirements
Only candidates for or employees in probationary, permanent, or time-limited positions working at least 20 hours per week may be eligible for Sign-on or Retention bonuses. Bonuses for eligible employees working in part-time positions over 20 hours per week will be prorated based on hours worked.
Any groups of more than 50 employees receiving bonuses require pre-approval by the Office of State Budget and Management.
Sign-on and Retention bonuses must not be tied to meeting specific goals, special levels of productivity, quality and accuracy or work, efficiencies, or attendance.

A Sign-on bonus may be offered either for a specific job classification or an individual position. A Sign-on bonus must be part of a program established to attract qualified candidates in critical positions that have labor market shortages, and it must be common practice to offer a Sign-on bonus to a candidate for a position to be competitive in the market.
To be eligible for a Sign-on bonus, an individual must not have worked in a probationary, permanent, or time-limited appointment in the last 12 months as an employee in North Carolina state government, including but not limited to the judicial system, state executive branch agencies, and the university system in a position subject to the State Human Resources Act.
2. the employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any North Carolina State agency or university;
3. or UNC-CH has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.
This SHRA Sign-on Bonus is contingent upon budget and final eligibility determination as of the effective date of hire. All recipients must sign the Pay Back Agreement form.
