Summary
Spire is seeking a Lead, Midstream Commercial Optimization to join its midstream commercial team. This position is responsible for evaluating market conditions relative to capabilities of Spire's midstream assets to develop strategies that maximizes commercial opportunities for each asset. The position will also support the nominations, scheduling, confirmation, and allocation functions for Spire's pipeline and storage assets. The position will monitor transactions in the relevant markets to understand trends in volatility and forward curve price relationships and review relative to optimization strategies. Execute park & loan transactions and IT transactions as directed by the Director, Midstream Commercial Optimization.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage natural gas flows into/out of storage and pipeline
- Advise and assist in daily trading activities regarding the optimal use of storage and pipeline assets
- Create and negotiate new deals for Park and Loan, Firm Storage Service, Wheels, and other gas storage services
- Manage daily nominations, confirmations, imbalances, and other similar activities related to the tariffed-based natural gas services offered on multiple pipelines
- Complete statistical analysis of commodity prices
- Develop optimization tools to develop and support asset optimization transactions
- Work effectively with Spire's shared services organization, including legal, treasury, accounting, etc.
- Travel as required to meet with customers/potential customers that supports the expansion of Spire Midstream's customer base - includes marketers, utilities, and pipelines
- Monitor all developments in key regions related to physical gas markets, including supply and demand trends, gas prices, gas flows, locational basis, seasonal spreads, volatility, etc.
- Support optimization decisions in absence of Director of Optimization
- Handle after-hours and weekend pipeline and scheduling duties by monitoring emails and phone calls from pipelines and customers
- Adhere to Spire's risk management policies and procedures
- All other duties assigned
Essential Characteristics and Competencies
- Strong analytical and presentation development skills w/ experience in the natural gas industry
- Direct experience with commercial organizations that purchase or sell energy commodities

Supervisory Responsibilities
Required Education (certifications, licenses)
Bachelor's degree in an analytical or accounting/finance-related discipline or have industry relevant experience that can provide the knowledge necessary to fulfill the duties.
Required knowledge, skill and abilities
3 to 5 years of relevant experience in energy commodities markets, including, utility experience, marketing, deal origination, and buying/selling gas and pipeline transportation and/or storage capacity and scheduling
Physical demands, environment and schedule
- Typical hours are 7:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., Monday through Friday
- Additional hours will be needed from time to time to meet deadlines and manage off-hour customer needs.
- Up to 10% travel required
