Director, Philanthropic Funds

A Brief Overview Ensure the accurate accounting, stewardship and reporting of philanthropic funds in compliance with GAAP and internal controls. Develop and refine policies, processes, and budgeting frameworks while collaborating with fundraising and the operations teams. Lead software implementation and provide executives with key financial insights to support effective fund management. This person is is responsible for driving cross-functional efforts to optimize the use of philanthropic funds. They accomplish this through active partnership with the departments leaders benefiting from the funds, Department Administrators, the Office of Institutional Relations & Development (IRD) and UH Senior Leaders.

What You Will Do

* Ensure philanthropic funds are accounted for in accordance with GAAP, adhering to the first dollar concept.

* Establishment and/or refinement of processes and policies relating to the use of philanthropic funds.

* Drives consistent implementation of processes and policies, by establishment and/or refinement of internal controls surrounding the use and safeguarding of the philanthropic funds

* Working collaboratively with the fundraising and operations teams to ensure appropriate use of philanthropic funds; Serves as a point person to support and empower department leaders/Department Administrators in strategically determining use of philanthropic funds and/or operating budget

* Establishing and implementing a framework of budgeting encumbrances.

* Developing/refining reporting - for both operational and GAAP purposes; drives consistent and strategic utilization of reporting

* Installation of software that will accommodate the objective/initiatives of philanthropic funds. This includes leading the implementation and ensuring end-product provides stakeholders with the information that they need to effectively manage philanthropic funds.

* Work with fundraising department to assist in the proper stewardship of the philanthropic funds.

* Communicate and directly interact with executives on philanthropic funds and the overall progress on fund optimization.

* Facilitates and supports projections of fund utilization for use in budgeting or longer term modeling

* Maintains active and informed relationships with stakeholders in departments, fundraising, finance, and executive teams, ensuring that all duties above are implemented with accuracy and buy in/engagement, such that we optimize the use of donor funds and empower leaders' skills for strategic financial management
