Responsibilities

Summary
The Lead Recreation Specialist functions as a lead worker of the facility's recreation area and oversees the overall program which may include intramural sports, wellness, fitness, music, hobby-craft, leisure time and other special activities. Within the established policy and objectives, it plans, organizes and administers recreation activities and programs which promote the physical, creative and social development of resident population. In addition, this position oversees Recreational Specialists or other staff.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure overall coverage of the recreational activities including the oversight of the recreation program that meets the needs of the residents and motivates them to utilize the opportunities.
  • Ensure proper staff coverage.
  • Assign, direct, and review the work of the recreational staff and provide input to evaluating work performance, identifying training needs, recommending selections, promotions and awards, disciplinary or other actions.
  • Assess the recreational needs and interests of the residents.
  • Monitor recreational programs and provides evaluations of them for management to review.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field, or a combination of higher level educational and applicable work experience.
  • Prior experience working in a childcare related field is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in a leadership capacity. Prior experience leading a subordinate staff is also required.
  • Must be mature, display leadership and motivational qualities, be in good physical condition, possess good communication skills and be dedicated to the goals of the Facility.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
