Senior Systems Engineer | Full-Time | Hybrid | Michigan or Minnesota
As a Senior Systems Engineer, you are a key member of the Infrastructure Development and Optimization team, which provides support for server, database, network, and storage solutions. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering quality technical solutions, while providing guidance and expertise to clients and team members. As a proven Subject Matter Expert on projects and technologies, you will also be responsible for providing guidance to Systems Engineers and Associate Systems Engineers of the practice.
What You'll Accomplish:
* Assist Domain and Solution Architects in design and architecture of infrastructure solutions, encompassing servers, networks, storage, virtualization, and cloud technologies.
* Analyze infrastructure performance metrics, identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies, and develop strategies to optimize performance, reliability, and scalability.
* Contribute to breaking out objectives and larger work items into tasks. Helps ensure the team understands the tasks that are assigned. Proactively takes ownership of tasks. Takes the lead on calling out risks in the technical work.
* Produce runbooks and processes to scale work to other team members, especially Engineers and Associate Engineers.
* Conduct security assessments, risk assessments, and compliance audits, and recommend and implement remediation measures to address vulnerabilities and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.
* Ensure the security and compliance of client infrastructure environments by implementing and maintaining robust security controls, policies, and procedures.
* Cultivate strong relationships with clients, serving as a trusted advisor on infrastructure matters.
* Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment, encouraging knowledge sharing, collaboration, and innovation.
* Collaborate with clients and internal stakeholders to understand business requirements and develop scalable, resilient, and cost-effective infrastructure designs.
* Communicate technical concepts effectively to non-technical stakeholders, building confidence and trust in our capabilities.
* Serve as a subject matter expert in infrastructure technologies, providing advanced technical support and troubleshooting assistance as needed.
* May own Root Cause Analysis for incidents, and lead retros for smaller projects, as well as defines any remediation tasks.
* Develop documentation to refine the work we do.
* Serve as the technical lead on infrastructure projects, providing guidance, oversight, and direction to project teams.
* Stay abreast of emerging trends, best practices, and industry standards in infrastructure management, and share knowledge with colleagues to foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
* Understand client business objectives, challenges, and pain points, and recommend tailored solutions to address their needs.
* Implement automation, orchestration, and monitoring solutions to enhance operational efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
* Mentor and coach associate and mid-level engineers, providing guidance, support, and opportunities for skill development and career advancement.
* Manages own time and task prioritization and does not require direct supervision. Takes on tasks in areas where they are skilled, with minimal technical instructions. Proactively takes on new tasks.
* Subject Matter Expert in multiple skillsets, typically within a single domain (IDO's focus). Expected to continue pursuit of new technology to align with industry direction.
* May be expected to achieve certifications in their area of skillset for Vervint certification needs (partner levels required).
* Create the technical designs for smaller engagements, standardized solutions, or assigned outcomes in a project.
What You'll Bring:
* Demonstrated ability to perform tasks with minimal direction, taking ownership and being accountable for results.
* Strong expertise in infrastructure technologies, including servers, networks, storage, virtualization, cloud computing, and security.
* CCNA, Azure, or AWS certifications preferred.
* Comprehensive understanding and application of technical principles, theories, and concepts.
* Ability to provide technical solutions to a wide range of challenging problems, with the ability to independently determine and develop approach to solutions.
* Desire to expand technical skillset through training, certifications, and/or exposure to a variety of assessments.
* Proven ability to analyze complex technical problems, develop innovative solutions, and make data-driven decisions.
* Ability to think strategically and translate business requirements into technical solutions that align with organizational objectives.
* Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients, colleagues, and executive stakeholders, including the ability to probe and question to elicit the true requirements of a project in a respectful and responsible way.
* Time management skills, delivering project tasks on time.
* Collaborative mindset with demonstrated ability to train, mentor, and coach other engineers.
* Ability to facilitate collaboration between internal and external stakeholders to meet goals.
Education/Experience:
* Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related field OR a combination of education and experience.
* At least 5-7 years of related experience in the field.
