DUTIES:
- Inspects tooling, composites, machined parts, and subassemblies completely for dimensional conformity, workmanship, operation sequence, adherence to design requirements and specifications in coordination with associated tooling and parts. Performs periodic checks and/or inspections, involving GD&T calculations on various types of precision measuring instruments. Accepts or rejects items per specifications and engineering drawings.
- Plans and conducts necessary inspection layout and setup of part and tool according to tool design, engineering, and manufacturing requirements. Selects proper equipment, supplies and materials. Sets up parts and equipment to conduct inspection. May require to vary setup and re-inspect until required conditions and results are obtained.
- Includes the most complex types of jigs, tools masters, fixtures, and machine tools involving many closely coordinated locating points, dimensions and/or tooling holes and several planes not at right angles or parallel to one another. Inspects castings, forgings, machine parts and subassemblies having compound angles, many related dimensions and reverse curves and compound angles for conformance to specifications and engineering drawing.
- Sets up castings, jigs, fixtures, machine parts and tooling on Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM), surface plate or table, angle plate, sine plate, rotary or tilting table or other state of the art equipment suitable for taking precision measurements. Checks dimensions such as, hole patterns, trim lines, parallelism and other GD&T specifications.
- Establishes reference points from which to measure and verify the dimensional accuracy, the many inter-related and coordinated datums in different planes involving close tolerance relationships to each other or to a single datum and making multiple setups where necessary to determine dimensional acceptability.
