The Senior Research Lab Tech will actively participate in experimental research with an interdisciplinary team.

The Senior Research Lab Tech will oversee the exposure of mice to cigarette smoke and the breeding of the mouse colonies, the weaning of litters, ear tagging to identify each animal, perform tail biopsies, and enter information into excel spreadsheets. Additional responsibilities will include

  • prepare reagents and buffers, and other experiments as directed by the Principal Investigator
  • work with other investigators in the laboratory utilizing state-of-the-art in vitro and in vivo models
  • responsible for assisting with training and orientation of new postdocs and technicians
  • responsible for planning activities, keeping accurate and concurrent records of specific experiments performed
  • responsible for ordering supplies and reagents
  • continue to actively participate in experimental research related to these goals and will present their lab work at the weekly lab meetings.
  • work with the supervisor to perform non-routine, highly specialized experiments and will be responsible for troubleshooting instruments or protocol failures
  • manage supply inventory of designated task areas
  • prepare new SOPs as needed for all laboratory experiments by including the input of all lab members and help the implementation of all SOPs during studies
  • update the schedule for the presenters in the lab meeting
  • be responsible for amendments and renewals of IACUC and IRB protocols
  • be responsible for overseeing the upkeep of research equipment in the laboratory
  • make decisions in helping the tasks that need to be completed by research technologists
  • be responsible with updating the laboratory web site.
  • Oversee the overall cleanliness and organization of lab items

Expectations:

  • Deliver work and data produced with high accuracy, attention to detail
  • Raise questions promptly with Investigators about matters affecting data quality.
  • Provide thorough written and/or electronic documentation of all costs, protocols, weekly project status reports and laboratory projects.
  • Continue to independently follow protocols and troubleshoot procedures as required
  • Balance multiple projects, plan with supervisors and other staff to work together to meet deadlines.
  • Continue to strive to learn more about methods, project design, and offering improvements to current techniques.
  • Communicate ideas and supervision in a professional, courteous, and accurate manner and show the ability to work independently and to function as part of a team.
  • Ensure that the laboratory meets all regulations required by lab inspections through IACUC or Biosafety committees.
  • Facilitate communication among lab members to keep updates on the stocks of lab supplies and help disseminate new SOPs
  • Track arrival of ordered items and ensure alternative purchases if items are on backorder
