About the opportunity

SWCA Environmental Consultants' New Mexico- Four Corners office is looking for a dynamic Cultural Resources Team Lead to oversee and grow a Geophysical Archaeology Program that can serve SWCA across the country. The successful candidate will possess a proven track record of developing new business, managing large-scale projects, meeting financial goals, and mentoring others to do the same. The role is a regular (with benefits), salaried, full-time position based out of our Albuquerque office.

What you will accomplish

The Cultural Resources Team Lead will manage current projects and contracts while participating in the development of a forward-looking plan for the team. This position will require highly developed critical thinking skills to recognize and solve problems proactively and independently, as well as identify and mitigate risks and impediments through persistence, creative thinking, and a focus on client satisfaction. This will include working with the New Mexico- Four Corners Cultural Resources Director, the South Region Directors, other team leads, and professional staff throughout the company to further our team and regional goals by contributing to the following:

Organizational Leadership

  • Lead and develop the Geophysical Archaeology Program, ensuring strategic growth and quality execution.
  • Manage and mentor a team of professionals, fostering collaboration and professional growth.
  • Proactively monitor the productivity and development of your Team, set clear expectations, and foster an environment of teamwork.
  • Provide general support to the team relating to subject matter resources, training opportunities, regulatory and research updates.
  • Drive compliance of safety policies and reporting requirements to ensure overall team safety.
  • Contribute to a supportive and dynamic work environment, collaborating effectively with other Archaeologists, Principal Investigators, Project Managers, and staff in all offices throughout the New Mexico- Four Corners Region and across the company

Technical Leadership

  • Oversee project life cycles, ensuring compliance with regulations and quality standards.
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality technical work throughout the cultural resources program, including project and data management, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Provide quality assurance/quality control reviews of deliverables prepared by other team members.
  • Maintain SWCA's high standard of quality control and take initiative to resolve problems and create improved procedures.
  • Participate in SWCA's Innovation initiative by considering new technology or other methods to improve efficiency and improve our company's competitive advantage.
  • Ability to adapt rapidly to changes in project needs, agency requests, etc. and be able to work independently and collaborate with a variety of colleagues, clients, and agency representatives.
  • Provide general support and guidance to the team relating to subject matter resources, training opportunities, regulatory and research updates.

Client Leadership

  • Develop strong relationships with existing clients while executing strategic analysis, marketing, and sales for new clients.
  • Manage the performance of individual projects, and effectively coordinate with clients and agencies, to produce technically excellent work that is on time and on budget.
  • Engage with the office business development team to evaluate changing market conditions and strategic sales opportunities at a regional and sub-regional level (new clients and geographies).
  • Lead proposal efforts and internal business development groups, drive accountability for participation in business development and help mentor seller-doer mentality in all employees.
  • Take lead role in the go/no go decisions in concert with the office Directors and drive accountability for efficient proposal and marketing pursuits.
  • Develop strong and productive relationships within industry organizations and with agency staff to expand the regional client base in line with the region's strategic goals.

Experience and qualifications for success

Required Qualifications

  • M.A. or M.S. in anthropology, archaeology, or related field
  • Minimum eight (8) years experience with geophysical archaeology, at least five (5) in a CRM context. This includes proven expertise in managing cultural resources projects, with responsibilities developing and implementing budgets, schedules, and scopes of work, from pre-field activities through to final report preparation.
  • Direct line staff supervisory experience, managing a team, assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and fostering productivity and development.
  • Drives compliance of safety policies and reporting requirements to ensure overall team safety.
  • Adapt rapidly to changes in project needs, agency requests, etc. and be able to work independently and collaborate with a variety of colleagues, clients, and agency representatives.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be able to meet SWCA's driver requirements.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Demonstrated business development success and consulting acumen, including established credibility with federal and state agencies and clients, as well as success in proposal writing.
  • Demonstrated success leading staff, including recruiting, mentoring, developing, and coaching.
  • Registered Professional Archaeologist or eligible to obtain certification
  • Has worked on an interdisciplinary team of scientists and planners.

An employee in this Albuquerque, NM-based position can expect a salary rate of $77,662/year to $101,228/year. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
