We are seeking a Sr. Product Line Manager to join Ciena's Routing & Switching PLM organization to define and drive the delivery of our Metro & Coherent routing products. Leveraging an understanding of market and customer requirements, the position will define technical and commercial product requirements for hardware & software. In doing so, the candidate will interface with other Ciena product teams from Routing & Switching, management (Navigator) and optical to ensure proper cross-portfolio support of our Metro & Coherent routing products.

The candidate must possess a balance of very strong technical skills, market knowledge, and business acumen. Excellent verbal and written skills are required for interaction with customers as well as various internal groups. In-depth knowledge of market trends and applications as well as networking/telecom technologies and standards is required.

How You Will Contribute

  • PLM responsibilities will be focused on Ciena's Metro & Coherent routing portfolio which presently includes the 81xx series and WaveRouter product lines.
  • Focus on defining product requirements based on customer/market/sales inputs, and set roadmap priorities
  • Collaboration with other product teams will include our SAOS (Service Aware Operating System) embedded NOS, Navigator Control Suite (NCS), the optical systems team, and Wavelogic coherent optics teams.
  • Define and aid in the positioning of new metro routing approaches including value proposition, customer application, products involved, key features & technologies, roadmap requirements, interoperability requirements and projected market / revenue opportunity
  • Leverage product/solution subject matter expertise to convey product benefits and positioning to customers, marketing and sales, and deliver presentations / thought leadership at conferences and/or in standards organizations
  • Provide education & knowledge transfer in support of marketing efforts to generate product collateral such as presentations, white papers, and product brochures or datasheets

The Must Haves

  • BS in engineering, computer science or equivalent with 8 years or more experience in product management, network architecture/design, technical pre-sales, or similar role the networking industry
  • Networking expertise
  • Experience with IP/SR/MPLS/Ethernet/VXLAN and related network switching & routing products and technologies
  • Subject matter expertise with IETF, IEEE and MEF standards as they pertain to IP and Ethernet networking, including
  • IETF IP, MPLS, Segment Routing (SR-MPLS and SRv6) protocols and services such as IP VPNs, EVPNs, VPLS/VPWS
  • Ethernet protocols and services including MEF services, Ethernet OAM, FlexE, Ethernet protection, etc
  • Knowledge of optical networking concepts and technologies such as coherent DWDM modems, ROADMs / line systems, OTN
  • Knowledge of SDN concepts such as centralized control, path computation, provisioning, Netconf/YANG, and APIs is desired
  • Ai/Cloud knowledge
  • Understanding of Ai and the impacts it will have on networking technologies
  • Knowledge of cloud computing technologies, business trends, and virtualization. This includes understanding IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, and other cloud service models.
  • Professional who takes ownership of problems from beginning to end
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Willingness to travel

Pay Range

The annual pay range for this position is $134,000 - $214,000 CAD

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
