The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) position for Alamance Regional Medical Center (ARMC) will provide leadership, direction, and planning for the facility-based medical staff, for health service delivery within the respective geographic market of Alamance and will be a critical executive team member. The role is intended to be a full-time position, however there could be opportunities to maintain .2 of a clinical practice role while serving as the CMO of ARMC.

The CMO will report to the hospital President at ARMC with a dotted line to the Cone Health CMO for clinical alignment. This role will collaborate with the Cone Health Chief Physician Executive, Cone Health CMO, President ARMC and Cone Health Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to provide guidance on a wide range of clinical and operational activities for the facility, region, and/or market. Additionally, this physician executive will work with the ARMC President and ARMC CNO to improve physician/staff engagement, improve patient experience, and oversee quality, safety, and compliance/regulatory issues.

This position will be an active leader addressing ARMC throughput opportunities and an active leader as we implement care without delay protocols across ARMC. The CMO will be a key leader in advancing Cone Health's focus on creating value for our patients, physicians/APPS, associates and community.

As the CMO of ARMC, the role will be actively involved as the ARMC liaison physician leader to all community-based physician partners. The CMO will develop new relationships with key physician partners to support the growth and clinical program development of ARMC. In collaboration with other Medical Staff leaders across ARMC, this role will evaluate and support the implementation of expanding clinical programs for ARMC. The role will be engaged in strategic, operational and clinical activities to ensure ARMC continues to grow and meet the needs of the Alamance region.

The CMO will also lend guidance to traditional medical staff issues such as peer review, privileging and credentialing processes, and be available ad hoc for interviewing new members of the medical and dental staff. The CMO will actively participate in all medical staff meetings and will serve as a thought partner and resource to members of the medical staff, clinical staff, and all clinical leadership.
To address both geographic service performance and market trends, the CMO will develop relationships with medical and clinical staff to understand and address their concerns and potential opportunities for improvement. It is expected that the CMO will become familiar with key performance measures and lead projects to improve them at their division level (examples include healthcare acquired infections, falls, length of stay, readmission, etc.)

The role will be a resource and key stakeholder supporting and aligning with other key executive roles across Cone Health to include:
* Systemwide Leadership and other Chief Medical Officers
* Hospital Presidents
* Hospital Chief Nursing Officers
* System Chief Quality Officer
* VP Physician Engagement,
* VP Acute Clinical Hospital Services,
* President of the Medical Group and other physician executives of Cone Health system
* Medical directors of clinical service lines and facility units/programs
Liaison between system-wide executive leadership and local based medical staff and physician practices. Represent physician/APP concerns to health system leadership and organizational business concerns to medical staff.

Develop, implement and maintain transitions of care models that support physicians and patients transitioning to and from the hospital and emergency departments. Understand the continuum of care focusing on keeping patients safely at home, appropriate utilization of ambulatory and outpatient care models, and utilizing acute and emergency facilities only when necessary.

Focus on improving physician and APP engagement in order to improve patient outcomes. Understand and implement processes that improve physician and APP resiliency.

Understand and support process improvement as involved in medical staff privileging and credentialing. Participate ad hoc in facility-based Peer Review process and professionalism committee.

Develop functional unit-based teams, led by medical and nursing directors, focused on improving quality, safety, experience and staff/physician engagement goals
EDUCATION:
REQUIRED:
MD or DO degree
PREFERRED:
Formal advanced degree training/credentialing such as a MBA, MHA, MMM or educational program Recent clinical practice is strongly preferred.
Board certification in area of clinical practice is strongly preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
REQUIRED:
Five years of progressive clinical and administrative leadership demonstrating clinical skills, process improvement and multi-disciplinary team development
Knowledge of medico-legal issues, laws, and CMS/Joint Commission regulatory issues
PREFERRED:
1-3 years Quality Improvement leadership
1-3 years Regulatory/Accreditation leadership
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:
REQUIRED:
Licensed (or license eligible) to practice medicine in the state of North Carolina Valid Driver's License
PREFERRED:
Graduate of Physician Leadership Academy (Cone Health) or equivalent Board Certification in area of clinical practice
