DESCRIPTION

This position is considered a Safety-Sensitive position. Applicants who pass the interview process will be subject to drug and alcohol testing.
The purpose of this position is to inspect, diagnose and repair all vehicles, trucks, regular and emergency equipment within the City.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
-
Essential Functions:
- Must communicate with others in spoken and written English to ensure the safe and efficient operations of the business.
- Inspects, diagnoses, and repairs equipment including heavy duty trucks, mulching and refuse equipment, spreaders, excavators, dozers, loaders, dump bodies/trailers, tractors, backhoes, sweepers, and all fire and rescue apparatus.
- Diagnoses, disassembles, and inspects and repairs or replaces systems including air and hydraulic brakes, cooling systems, drive lines, gas and diesel engines, HVAC, advanced hydraulics, electrical, steering and suspension, and transmission.
- Inspects, services, and adjusts fluid levels, hoses, belts, brakes, tires and clutches; changes filters; oils and lubricate vehicles and motor driven equipment.
- Conducts emergency repairs to fire and rescue apparatus, refuse disposal equipment, and on/off highway mowing equipment.
- Enters data and parts to repair orders.
- Fabricates, installs and modifies special equipment or replacement parts using welders, torches, plasma cutters, grinders, and metal cutting saws.
- Operates a Powered Industrial Truck (tow motor and pallet jack) to transport materials around the facility. Must have the ability to successfully complete employer-provided certification training upon initial assignment and every three (3) years in accordance with the OSHA Powered Industrial Truck standard 29 CFR 1920.178
- Troubleshoots, repairs, and replaces advanced electrical systems on a wide variety of computer-controlled equipment using laptop computers and proprietary software.
- Obtains, reviews and forwards copies of accident reports involving City vehicles, including estimates for repairs, to the City representative.
- Performs other work as assigned.

TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
- Must have one (1) year of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic or closely related.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
- Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required.
- Must be certified by Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) or have the ability to obtain that certification within one (1) year after employment.
- Must have the ability to operate a Powered Industrial Truck (tow motor and pallet jack) to transport materials around the facility.
- Ability to successfully complete employer-provided certification training upon initial assignment and every three (3) years in accordance with the OSHA Powered Industrial Truck standard 29 CFR 1920.178.
