The Retirement Plan Services, Relationship Manager is entrusted with managing a book of 401(k) Plans, 403(b) Plans, Defined Benefit Plans and/or Profit Sharing Plan clients. In this role, you will develop and effectively manage primary relationships with plan sponsor contacts along with their recordkeepers and/or TPAs through frequent client contact. The ideal candidate for this role will be comfortable with public speaking and possess expertise working with on ERISA based retirement plan engagements. Given the nature of this role and working closely with other departments at the bank, it is important to be a team player. The role requires travel visiting clients and Rockland Trust offices within our footprint. Overnight travel is not required.

Primary Responsibilities

The Relationship Manager is the primary contact for the client and works within a team structure that is collectively responsible for establishing client relationships, resolving client issues and meeting the needs of Plan Sponsors. Common responsibilities include:



  • Develop and manage effective relationships with plan decision makers and vendors through frequent client contact, including on-site visits, proactive phone calls, responsive communication, and problem resolution.
  • Work with sponsors and vendor relationships to understand their concerns and needs and, as needed, act as liaison between home office departments and the customer to initiate plan improvements and resolve issues.
  • Provide ERISA plan design consulting services. Although we are not responsible for writing Plan Documents, the ideal candidate will be able to help clients interpret their documents and provide perspective on the impact of certain changes to their document.
  • Manage any plan changes that result in a conversion between recordkeepers, TPAs, etc. This may include assisting in the data collection process, managing the new business submission process, delivering documents and agreements, communicating with the plan sponsor and vendors, and other activities related to the plan installation process.
  • Drive client retention by delivering (at least) annual plan reviews to decision-makers and initiating proactive client contact and meetings. These plan reviews typically include an analysis of the current fund menu, fee benchmarking, a discussion about how and when educational sessions can be planned (along with topics to cover) and the review of various other tools such as those the recordkeeper may provide.
  • Provide sales support and retirement expertise as requested by the Retirement Plan Services Manager and/or the Sales / New Business Development Team.

Required Skills:

Minimum of 5 years demonstrated relationship management experience within the Defined Contribution space or an equivalent combination of Sales and Service experience. Excellent knowledge of qualified plans, ERISA, and Relationship Management to go along with a strong background working with mutual funds and/or investments. You'll have the opportunity to obtain or transfer securities or insurance licensing to LPL Financial.
