Posting Type: Open Competitive Work Type: Full-Time Nature of Work: This is inspection work in enforcement of municipal codes and ordinances pertaining to hydronic heating and cooling systems, boilers, air ventilation, air conditioning, heating and cooling systems, and pressurized vessels. Work includes inspecting installations to ensure compliance with approved plans and the City Mechanical Code, and also involves the inspection of water piping, radiators, fuel storage tanks, fire lines, fire sprinkler systems, air compression systems, and fuel and exhaust systems of standby power generators. Employees in this class inspect installations to ensure they installed according to approved plans and in accordance with the City's mechanical code. Employees in this class work alone and are responsible for making independent decisions, subject to periodic review by supervisors. Education and Experience: The knowledge, skills, and abilities may be acquired through, but are not limited to, the following combination of education and/or experience. High school diploma or its equivalent Special Qualifications: Must possess, and have held for a minimum of five years, a valid City of Omaha-issued first grade stationary engineer's license, or a journeyman level steam/pipefitter's license, or a journeyman level ACAD license. Must be able to transport oneself or coordinate transportation to work sites throughout the City during the course of the work day. Pay Range: $29.80 with step increases to $38.03 Hourly Benefits: Forty-hour work week. Paid leave per year: twelve days vacation; eighteen days sick; and fourteen holidays. Examination Information: The multiple-choice/written examination will be on a date to be determined at the Omaha/Douglas Civic Center, 1819 Farnam St. An invitation via email to the exam will be given to candidates once their application has been received, reviewed by a recruiter, and accepted to the test for the position. The test is designed to assess knowledge of the job, skills, and abilities of this position. The passing score on the examination is 60%. This will be weighted 100% in the final score. Veteran Points: To claim five (5) points for veteran's preference, you must submit proof of service (such as a DD-214) that includes the date of induction, date of honorable separation, and Social Security number. (You must have completed more than 180 consecutive days of active duty.) To receive an additional five (5) points credit for disability, you must submit proof of eligibility from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs dated within the last 12 months. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. * Inspects new, replacement, and retrofit installations, including heating, cooling, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, as well as associated pipes, radiators, valves, refrigeration, furnaces, air handling units, fans, ductwork, coils, boilers, pressure vessels, fire lines, fire sprinkler systems, fire suppression systems, flammable liquid storage tanks, pressurized gas storage facilities, air compression systems, and standby power system fuel and exhaust systems for compliance with codes and ordinances.
