Position Summary |
The Assistant Director for Business and Human Resources has primary responsibility for managing the daily business and human resources operations of the Recreational Sports Department, a large and complex unit that manages the Ramsey Student Center and six outdoor recreation facilities. The department offers 250+ recreation programs each semester and employs 25 full-time staff members, four (3) graduate assistants and 450+ student employees. In addition, this position must ensure that all funds generated by and/or budgeted to the department ($4.7 million annually) are accounted for and expended according to all applicable fiscal policies and procedures. The incumbent is responsible for managing two full-time staff members and reports directly to the Director of Recreational Sports. |

Fiscal Oversight:
- Analyze and report on the department's business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations.
- Compile data to develop and maintain reporting and monitoring tools. This includes but is not limited to, UBIT calculations, Rec Fee Proposal, and the preparation of the 5-year plan workbook and narrative.
- Provide guidance and assistance with budget and salary setting.
- Review and approve all financial transactions.
- Serve as the 2nd level approver for all P-card transactions and statements.
- Ensure the monitoring and periodic audit of point-of-sale operations at the cashier's window, admissions, and the Outdoor Recreation Center.

HR Oversight:
- Manage and provide oversight of the hiring process of over 450 students, temporary and full-time staff for the department, including coordinating, communicating, documenting, and reporting on the hiring, promotion, and reclassification processes and efforts.
- Serve as the department liaison with the division's Associate Director for HR Operation.
- Monitor position funding for all positions.
- Review and approve all HR transactions.
- Develop, implement, review, and revise, as needed, departmental policies and procedures for business and human resources.
- Ensure that the department is compliant with all applicable federal, state, Board of Regents, and University of Georgia laws, statutes, policies, and procedures.
- Provide oversight of audit records and the records management system.
- Aids departmental staff in understanding and complying with UGA fiscal, purchasing, human resources and travel policies and procedures.

- Directly supervise and oversee the work of the Human Resources Manager and Membership Operations Manager, including recruitment, training, and performance evaluations.
- Actively promote and participate in the engagement, development & retention of each staff member.

- Conduct regular check-ins and annual evaluations, providing constructive feedback and recognizing achievements. Work collaboratively with employees to establish clear goals and expectations.
